Great. Shut up.,

This review is from: Kisses on the Bottom (Audio CD)
Just listened all the way through, and I don't get what all the criticism is about. It's exceptionally tasteful - considerately chosen songs (very few "usual suspects"), two fantastic originals (Stevie Wonder's harmonica accompaniment on "Only Our Hearts" is signature), Paul's vintage vocals front and center, spare and mature arrangements throughout, and Diana Krall's top-notch band underneath it all.
Unlike the recent series of Rod Stewart songbook atrocities, there's nothing gimmicky here, and very little schmaltz.

My fear was that this was going to be another of those Rod Stewart cover albums (which I despise) so this succinct review was helpful. I found Paul's performance on the Grammy's show quite touching. He's given us some great music (I really like Flaming Pie) so I will give this a listen.

I can make up my own mind regarding music and food so I didn't bother to read any 1 star reviews before I downloaded the entire album. I agree with you, tashcrash, that some retro albums by stars such as Rod Stewart, etc. can disappoint but I like to reward artists for stepping out of the box with a different sound. I've really enjoyed the more retro sounds of The Dana Owens album (Queen Latifah) and Sting's Songs from the Labyrinth; I admire when artists grow and expand.
