Can we get back to the main characters, please?,
This review is from: The Union Quilters (Elm Creek Quilts) (Hardcover)
You could easily skip this book and have lost nothing in the story of the present day Elm Creek Quilters. Yes, I knew this story was placed during the Civil War, but the tie-in to the present day characters from earlier books felt forced at best. If you changed the names from Hans and Dorothea to Frank and Emily, you would have the same story, still disconnected to the present day characters.
I have read every one of ECQ books, and am disappointed in the stall-out in plot with the current characters. As someone else wrote, it is as if Jennifer has become weary of them and wishes to explore other writing areas.
If you wish to read about the grim horrors of the Civil War, read on. Otherwise, you may leave it on the shelf and await the next installment in the ECQ's lives.
