Test their claim number first: (877) 441-3836,
I was thinking about buying this with my kindle but I had some questions. I wanted to know if the replacement was a new kindle or a refurbished kindle. And, I wanted to see how difficult it would be to get a representative for a claim. I called the number and it went right into a small speech about calling Amazon for technical support and asked for me to hold on the line to file a claim. Then, I waited for 16 minutes on hold at 6:30pm on a Wednesday Night! I hung up and decided that it wasn't even worth it. I'm a careful person and I bought a nice comfy case for my Kindle to snuggle in for safe keeping.
Test the number for yourself: (877) 441-3836 and asked questions. Ask if you get a refurbished model or a new one. I'd like to know but I think they only do refurb replacements. Nowhere do they say you will get a *NEW* Kindle which would be a great selling point and something worth putting on the page.
So, buyer beware unless you are a total klutz!

I hate it when companies say use website or contact us. Often it is just for the ad, thanks for letting me know its BS.

You're welcome. But I never suggest people just take my word (or anyone's) for anything. Call and try it for yourself. :)

I called the number and was on hold only a few minutes and then got "James". I asked him if I bought a new 8.9" Kindle Fire and needed their warranty to replace it, what would I receive in return ..a new one or refurb? He said it would 'be whatever Amazon had in stock and it would most likely be refurbished'. I thanked him and told him he helped make up my mind. Now I am going to Staples and buy my Kindle Fire HD 8.9" with their warranty. I know it is good for I just used it on my old one I got last year. It wouldn't come on (operator from their warranty # said it was common problem and was so helpful). She issued me a refund right then via email for $199.00 Staples card to go buy a new one. So I am going now and apply it to a new 8.9" model, with warranty. Can't beat that plus I kept the old one. Now to use it for parts if I need to on another one.
