Step above a basic point and shoot,
This review is from: Olympus SP-720UZ iHS Digital Camera with 26x Optical Zoom and 3-Inch LCD (Black) (Electronics)I got this for my birthday back in Febuary. It's the next level up from a basic point and shoot camera that most people start off with. While its no where near the level of SLRs, the body has some weight to it, so make sure to use both hands to help keep it stable. I haven't used the video format on it yet so I can't comment on that, but the camera takes great photos. Read through the manual though and take some practice shots around your home to get a feel for how the camera works. It's worth the investment if your looking to upgrade from a basic point and shoot, but not ready for a SLR

Great review. Did you get a chance to try the video yet? If so, can you please comment on that. I'm considering buying this camera and would like to know if I can zoom in and out while shooting videos. Thanks!

I did use the video since my review. It can record video up to 1080p, but to my knowledge, can't zoom in and out. Audio is decent too for a digital still camera. If your planning to shoot a lot of video and take a lot of pictures, I recommend a 8 gig SD card at minimum. Hope this helps!

Yes, you've been very helpful. I may have to keep looking because I need a camera that will let me use the zoom while shooting videos. That's the main reason for upgrading my camera. Thank you and enjoy your camera.
