This review is from: Sisters of the Quilt: The Complete Trilogy (Kindle Edition)
I read the entire trilogy in three days. I couldn't put it down. The book really keeps your interest but more than that it makes you think. I enjoy reading Amish fiction because of the deep faith in God that resides in the people regardless of how bad things get. Besides that you see some in the Amish faith question God or the way their elders run their church. It is normal to question especially the youth and young adults. The first book starts with a rape of a 17-year-old girl and all that it did in her life. I don't want to give the story away but you see Hanna fight for her rights to feel and believe. She has a strong relationship with God yet so much comes against her including the elders of the church and even her parents.
This book taught me even more about the old order Amish through Hanna's experiences. It also shows some of the differences between the old order Amish and the Mennonites. However both can vary depending on where they are located. The Amish are a strong people that love and trust God with all they have. They fully believe that the will of God should prevail even if the will of God if hard. Do I trust God with every aspect of my life the way these people do? It really makes me think about my own walk with God and how I do or don't let Him reign in my life.
I am not saying the Amish are perfect because they are human beings too with feelings, thoughts and ambitions just like everyone else. I think this trilogy brings that to the surface in many aspects. As Hanna said, God will bring something good out of the bad that happened and He truly did.
