Compatible with both Kindle 2 and 3 and...,
This review is from: Amazon Kindle Replacement USB Cable, White (Works with Kindle Fire, Touch, Keyboard, DX, and Kindle) (Accessory)
There's nothing wrong with this cable except...
It happens to be a generic "USB Type A/Micro-B" cable which means that, if you shop around you are going to see a lot of price competition. At Amazon search for "micro-b usb" under either "Kindle Store" or "Electronics" or, try "kindle cable" under "Electronics", then decide. I just ordered one for one penny plus 2.97 for shipping myself.
If you go 'generic' make sure that at you get one with "USB Type A" and "USB Micro-B" connectors (both male).

Product ID:5457 USB 2.0 A Male to Micro 5pin Male 28/24AWG Cable w/ Ferrite Core - (Gold Plated) - 3ft
I think one of those will do the trick. I just experienced the "shedding usb cable" problem others are having with this Amazon usb cable. I just ordered one of the above for a little under $3 shipped from monoprice.com.

Thanks! I tried to connect with a standard USB micro cable before (the one that came with my BlackBerry) and for some reason it didn't seem to work although the plug fit. I was already sending bad thoughts Amazon's way for requiring a proprietary cable that happens to match a standard USB cable, but after reading this review I decided to try again, and it works like a charm!

This post was very, very helpful. The prong was bent on my Kindle cable and I did NOT want to pay $20 for a replacement, plus shipping. I have a BlackBerry

This is most helpful information! I cringed at the thought of paying $20 for a replacement Kindle cable plus shipping. I read this post, immediately plugged my BlackBerry wall cable in and Voila! Worked with no problem! You guys rock :~)!

thank you so much! My sister's cable got mangled in the hospital during her stay. I ordered from monoprice.com and will receive the cable in 2 days for $3.08!

Thanks for the info! Luckily, the Proprietary Adapter Gods have smiled upon me and I found stored away an old Nokia device cable (type CA-101) that works with my Kindle 2 and the usb/wall outlet dongle. Love my Kindle, but thumbs down to Amazon for the poor cable design.

This is the most helpful review I've ever read. Thank you so much for taking to time to tell us.
I received my first Kindle today, only to discover I can't download any books without a cable. No Wi-Fi networks are available...or some such rot. I can't stand it when I buy a product only to discover that I need to buy something else just to make it functional. Kindle should include the damn cable and charge a couple bucks more. Now Amazon wants $10 for the USB cable and another $7 to ship it? What a crock!
Thank you again.
