2.0 out of 5 stars Painful writing and bad science, October 19, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Siege of Titan (Star Crusades Uprising Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
I forced myself to read the whole thing because I paid for it. I love military science fiction but the overall quality of the writing here was just plain bad. The same words used over and over, such as "apparently". "Apparently" everything, it's one of his favorite words to start a sentence and it's used in so many clumsy ways so often that it's really painful to read. And that's just one example.

The science that bothered me most was the idea of spaceships circulating between stars that are light years apart using nothing but classical ion drives, but somehow managing to make the trip in a few months instead of the 40-50 years it would really take even if they could get going that fast with an ion drive. It would be comparable to riding on horseback from Chicago to Dallas in an hour. Sort of ruins the story for me.

I give it 2 stars instead of 1 because the plot and the story itself wasn't bad. But the execution was so bad it made me wince.

The book says it takes 10 years to get to Alpha Centari, not months.

Granted 10 years might be a slight exaggeration for traveling 4 light years, but not much of one. After all this is Militay Science Fiction - not Militay Science Fact
