This review is from: Shadows of the Damned - Playstation 3 (Video Game)
This game was a lot of fun. You play as Garcia Hotspur and your a demon hunter with a side kick (your gun) Johnson. With that said, there is a lot of mature content in the game that leads to dick jokes and such. It gets overboard but in a good way in a time when games are taken too much the serious route. Your whole objective is trying to save your girl Paula will gets mutilated throughout the game as you try to save her.
The game has an interesting use like Alan Wake where you can't kill your enemies unless they are out of the darkness. You will use that same tactic but in the game your shooting a blast of light at the enemy and or at a goat's head that will bring lighten up a room. This has to be done throughout the game but as you do, you come across unique and different enemies. There are plenty of enemies that have their own strategy to defeat but in most cases (especially with bosses)they have an obvious weak spot. I would say my only frustration was when Paula is insane and chases you. It is a nice thing that keeps things fresh but she just needs to catch up with you, kiss you, and then your dead. There are different little moments but there is some great scenes and moments that really make the game standout as being creative and unique.
Before I step further into other details, the shooting mechanic can be a bit challenging. It feels a bit floaty which will unnerve some but my time, you get used to it. The weapons you use will become upgradable by having unique abilities and you can use gems to make them more powerful, faster reload speed, and or hold more ammo. You can also use gems to increase your health bar.
The game looks good but in its own style. I would compliment the music. It is very fitting and upbeat with some rock tunes that highlight your character's cheesy style. I would have to forewarn that there is a lot of cheesy lines in the game. It can be over the top but I think its done in a very entertaining way. As for a negative though, the game feels pretty short and can be beaten in 12 hours. I don't feel there is a lot of incentive to go back through a second time but if you want to get all trophies, they for some reason make you have to beat the game on every difficulty level to do so. You won't get the easy or normal trophy for beating it if you beat it on hard. Its a fun game though and its different than a lot of shooters. It has a lot of unique let gameplay moments that is fun to do. There is even side scrolling where you fly but they are not that great but it does help break things up for something different.
