4.0 out of 5 stars Great harness, but some may have a major glitch, August 8, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Rainbowimaging Quick Release Dual-shoulder Camera Neck Strap for Canon Nikon Olympus Pentax Panasonic Sony Dslr + Lens - Black (Electronics)
I received my harness , anda few days ago found a major glitch in the two mounting plates. To make a long story short, the pitch of the threads on the screws that attach the plate to the camera body are wrong. They will work on some cameras, but not others. I tried them on five camera bodies, three tripods, and a few other accessories. The screws would fit in some, but not others, even though they all had the same thread size. In fact, the badly-pitched screws won't even fit into the female side of the same plates if you try to screw the two of them together.

This was apparently a mistake made at the factory that made the screws. They used the right thread sized die, but the wrong thread pitch. FYI, the pitch is the distance from the crest of one thread to the next, or more simply, the number of threads per inch. If the pitch is close, it will still work, but if not, you will cross-thread and ruin either the male or female side, or both. In other words, DON'T force it if it's tight.

I'm now using other attachments instead of the badly threaded ones, but I wanted to warn other buyers. For the record, I contacted Rainbowimaging with this info.

Anyway, on to the actual review. I'm a camera bag and harness junkie. I have to carry two or three cameras with 400mm and 500mm lenses while working on land and on the water, so a good harness system is pure gold to me, while a not-so-good one can be a real pain, literally.

I have six or seven systems, including the MCH-25 holster system, which is very good. But none of them come even close to the Rainbowimaging quick release dual-camera harness. It's comfortable, it's quick and easy to use, it's well-made, and very easy to put on and take off. By the way, it can be used in the reverse position if you'd like the adjustment buckles in front rather than in back.

The harness keeps both cameras right where they can easily be reached, and switching from one to the other is simple and quick. I also wear a third camera and wide angle lens on the front, looping that camera's strap through the front strap of the Rainbowimaging harness. Works perfectly and keeps the weight on my shoulders rather than the back of my neck.

One more thing. You will want to add some sort of extra short safety strap between the Rainbow strap and your camera, just in case.

C. Gilchrist says:
What kind of "extra short safety strap" are you using? Where did you find it?

Thanks!

I use the short side straps with clips that come with the LowePro Top Loader bag. But any nylon cord with clips tied on the ends will do, and probably be easier to use.
