Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mediabridge ULTRA Series Subwoofer Cable (8 Feet) - Dual Shielded with Gold Plated RCA to RCA Connectors - Black (Electronics)
I purchased these to go with a pair of Sony subs I recently purchased. Both of these are replacing the very thin RCA cables that were included with the subs. One of these is also replacing an old 20ft monster cable I bought before I knew better. (Yes, I bought only two...hope this all makes sense...)
Comparing it to my monster cable, I feel even more ripped off since I think I paid $40 or $50 for that particular cable at Best Buy some 8 years ago. These cables *look* better...they're thicker, their heavier, the ends are more substantial, the ends are moulded into the cable better, and the RCA negative terminal is slash-cut for a *tight* fit. Does that actually translate into a better product? Nah...but, it sure does give one warm-fuzzies over having something that gives that sense of quality!
Now, to be honest...
Do they sound better than Monster? No.
Do they sound better than the thin-as-can-be Sony OE cables? No.
Do any of them sound better than the other? No!
Given the sub is getting pre-amp signals, all that matters in the end is that it gets a non-interferred signal. Good shielding and a thick enough wiring (which really isn't much!!!) is all that is really needed...
Will these get the job done? Absolutely.
Will they look good, give me warm fuzzies, and make me sleep better at night? Yes!
Are they worth the money? Somewhat - while technically you could use the thin OE cables and be fine...but for what these cost...WHY NOT?!
