A Good Light History Book,
This review is from: Havana Nocturne: How the Mob Owned Cuba and Then Lost It to the Revolution (Hardcover)
Havana Nocturne is pretty well written and researched. It is not a perfectly written academic book by any means but Mr English does a decent job. The faults are that he makes too many assumptions on what Meyer Lansky's and Batista's motivations were. There are some bizarre leaps where he even verbalizes the thoughts of Lansky. That had me thinking, "WTF?".
He does an incredible amount of research and interviews but the book has me thinking that he tries to make the research fit his assumptions on what really happened and not vice versa. I'd fit the book in with books which sensationalize history without being completely faithful.
