Don't be Tempted Over to the Dark Side ...,
This review is from: The Winter War (The Eric Kade Journeys) (Kindle Edition)After having read the synopsis, I really didn't know what to expect; the world of Demon Hunters was not one I had experienced before. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to get into the characters and their quest.
This novel is the second one in a series but with a handy prologue summary, it was not difficult to follow. The main character, Eric Kade, is a priest on a mission to defeat evil and he uses his faith as a source of courage in his endeavors. His allies from previous adventures have now turned against each other due to the interference of evil forces - temptation is always around the corner and in its many forms can be difficult to resist.
The plot unfolds on Bishop's Island, which although fictitious could be one of many small town coastal backwater fishing varieties notorious for their rough terrains and stormy seas which regularly challenge the livelihoods and existence of the locals. There are supernatural forces at work which seem to have had a profound effect on the island inhabitants.
Being cut off from the mainland gives a heightened sense of danger where the Demon Hunters must use all of their experience and tracking skills to succeed as well as survive. The plot unfolds at a fast pace through the various battles - some of which are on more personal levels whilst others are on more physical or spiritual levels. Everyone's senses and beliefs are tested to the maximum as they come up against hand made weaponry and the forces of the supernatural.
It's a book about love, betrayal, destruction and revenge where decisions can make or break you. The finale will leave you thirsty for more.
