Customer Review

5.0 out of 5 stars Never buy from a physical store, you know where I mean., January 3, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: RCA AH16100SR 100 Ft. 16-Gauge Speaker Wire (Electronics)
The same 16 gauge wire for 100 ft, would costs double in BBuy. If anybody thinks they are getting double the quality buying them, they are no doubt taken for a ride. A copper cable is a copper cable, unless you use these to wire your home grown cyclotron.

This is not copper. It's copper clad aluminum which, in this case, is equivalent to 18 gauge of copper wire.

Look in the technical details section:

* CCA, 100 feet

Most cheap speaker wire is copper clad aluminum unless it states outright that it's 100% copper. That's not so bad if you can get a larger gauge for a significantly lower price. You would need a 14 gauge CCA wire to get the equivalent resistance of a 16 gauge pure copper wire. Of course, many companies that sell cheap wire like Pyle/Pyramid also exaggerate the gauge size of their wire so you may have to go three gauges down from the required size. Sometimes it's just easier to buy the real deal. Hardware store heater cord would be better than this stuff.
