5.0 out of 5 stars Not as bad as they say it is, August 2, 2009
This review is from: Transformers Movie 2 Combiner - Construction Devastator (Toy)
I had been hearing a lot of bad things about Devastator when pics of him first got out, about an insane price tag and no robot modes, but he was the one I was looking forward to the most. I figured that I would find him and see for myself how bad he looked and if I didn't like it I wouldn't buy it. So I was at Toys R Us the other day and found the last one on the shelf and Devastator didn't look that bad to me...only the price tag did haha. While he is not as big as I had expected (Rumors where he would be 2ft tall at least, but he's a little over 1ft), its still pretty impressive to look at. When you open the box all the constructicons are already transformed into the limbs but are not connected and also a few parts like Scavengers' scoop and Mixmasters' truck cab, but all are easily connected. As in the movie Devastator is very top heavy and must be places in a hunchback or an on all-fours pose. He has and push button activated Vortex similer to the movie and His head expands a good five inchs or so and you can fit legends and scout class figures in there. The box says that transformation for him is a 4 and really I think hes been the easiest to transform out of all the transformers from ROTF! Pretty much its a turn here and pop these in and move that back motions when turning the Constructicons into vehicle mode. One thing that I really didn't like is Mixmaster won't ever shut up and there is no on-off switch and when he is transformed into a vehicle the slightest bump sends him off. All of them look great in vehicle mode exept High Tower as he is brightly colored compared to the other two yellow Constructicons. Paint details are minor as in they have none compared to the voyager and deluxe class Constructicons but I figure I'll paint him myself. So in all he is a decent figure and his price isn't for everybody but if your a fan of the movie Devastator you'll like it.

Quick tranformation
Vortex gimmick is cool
In Robot mode he is good scale to legends class figures

Price tag
Paint job could have been a lot better
Not very articulated
No wrecking balls
Mixmaster could have really used an on-off switch

You really need to add the fact that the individual units do not transform into robots into your CON category. They are only 6 construction vehicles, not robot/vehicles, that form one robot. This isn't helped by the fact that the individual Mixmaster toy does transform, just not the one that comes with this set. I know you mentioned this in your review briefly, but it is worth making sure people realize this before they spend $100.00 on the thing.

Good review. I'm still very much undecided though. On the one hand he's a giant crazy combiner robot which is great - but it would have been awesome if the parts transformed. Of course he probably would have been another hundered bucks. I do wish they'd attempted to make the voyager class constucticons in such a was as they actually could combine.

This devastator is not really a combiner since his individual parts are not transformers. This makes him an "x" con, where "x" is the number of non-transformer parts that it takes to form the robot. This is the same as the old G1 or G2 duocons that were two vehicles that became one robot. There was also a Triocon in TF armada called Tidalwave. He was (of course) three vehicles to form one robot. Since devastator is six non-transforming vehicles in one robot he would be a sexocon under these naming conventions.
