Good picture. Don't use progressive jpegs!,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Viewsonic VFM1536-11 15-Inch Multimedia Digital Photo Frame (Electronics)
I bought three of these for family at Christmas. The picture looked great. Everyone was very happy with them. That is until they each stopped working. They would get to specific pictures and the screen would fill with rolling vertical lines. The menu buttons wouldn't function. The unit was frozen. Turning it off and then back on got it working again, until it came to certain photos and again froze.
I called ViewSonic support. They provided no help, telling me to reset the factory settings (like I hadn't considered that before I called). I chatted online with a support rep. Again, they insisted that I just had a bad unit. They suggested that I send it in for repairs or return it to Amazon for a replacement. I just couldn't believe that I got three bad units, all with the same problem! What would make me think a replacement unit wouldn't behave the same?
I was about to return all three and look for a different manufacturer when I stumbled across this thread about another frame:
Turns out some frames (including this one) just don't like the progressive jpeg format saved by default in some programs (apparently including Windows Explorer when it rotates pictures). So I downloaded IrFanView (free) and re-encoded all of the pictures (only took a couple of minutes to do nearly 4000 pictures).
Now the frame works like a charm!
SHORT VERSION: ViewSonic tech support is useless. The frame is great so long as you ensure that your jpegs are not saved as Progressive jpegs.
