5.0 out of 5 stars Best Eagle's Concert I've Seen, June 2, 2005
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Eagles - Farewell 1 Tour - Live From Melbourne (DVD)
I just watched the concert on NBC using my High Definition TV broadcast, and 5.1 surround sound audio. It was absolutely terrific.

Every member of the group sounded great. Don Henley looked a bit heavy, and older, but sounded just fine.

If your favorite Eagle is Joe Walsh, this is the concert for you.
He sang more on this concert, and was great as always.

This concert contained almost every one of their hits, and left out a lot of their lesser known materials. Don Henley mentioned in some of his commentary that they don't mind at all doing their hits, even though they've performed them hundreds of times, and in fact thinks they've improved the songs and their performances over the years. I agree. In my opinion, this is a better concert than Hell Freezes Over, and that was very good.

How many bands can you name that have a country sound and are as popular with rockers as well as country, and have been around over 30 years?
Update: Finally on blu ray. I thought it would be impossible to improve, but here it is. The blu ray version sounds and looks even better. I've watched this concert many times. I never get tired of it!

Just great!!! By the way, the video and sound quality are top notch.

I have not seen this DVD concert yet ,but if Don Felder is not playing it is a major setback as far as i'm concerned.
He was a great guitarist with a rare melodic sense and a beautiful tone wich was a major part of the Eagles sound. Watch him on the 1976 Hotel tour if you can find it.There is no surround or DTS or HD, just a band in it's prime and Good Ol' Don Felder burning up the stage with his beautiful guitar playing and tandem work with Joe Walsh, who is no slouch himself.

Felder was great. BUt so his replacement. Give it a chance...Felder was fired basically because he was causing a lot of turmoil within the group...

Actually Gerald, you're misrepresenting the facts a bit ...

Don Felder was surgically removed from the band with a Temporary Restraining Order during a legal dispute - over money - concerning Don Henley and Glenn Frey taking an unfair portion of the profits. Felder spoke up for himself and the other band members, and was not rewarded for it. Glenn Frey and Don Henley maintained that because they founded the Eagles and were the core songwriters that they were entitled to more of the profits.

I may have agreed with Henley & Frey on the lawsuit issue if it was 1977 when they were still a fresh band or if this was over original Album sales which it is not. It primarily focused on continued Concert Revenue in which Felder rightly believed they were all equally participating in. But they broke up for 14 years before hand and then all came to a mutual agreement to play together again which makes Henley's case seem disingenuous. Felder, Schmit & Walsh publicly felt (and stated) beforehand, regarding Hell Freezes Over, that everything should've been equal, or close to it. It's sad that Schmit and Walsh didn't stand by Felder when it came down to confrontation with Henley.

Don Henley sings a lot about greed but seems that he's incapable of taking his own advice.

Good retort Chief...but still, the new guy is very good too...the new album is quite good and it's mostly new material.

Yes, the new album is actually better than I expected it to be, it's very good. Alas, Henley got my money again. ;]

David Clark says:
I agree Steffan. Personally I did not miss Felder in the least. Smith did his part very well, especially on Hotel California. The whole band played so toegether and in sync, it was just incredible. Joe Walsh was better than he has ever been. AA must of helped. Best concert DVD of the year. By the way the horns were incredible.

Avalon Don says:
I would like to see this band do an obsurity tour not playing one hit! Announce it as THE RARIETY TOUR. Pick out gems from the old albums like Neil Young. Who would come out to watch this? The sing-a-long material has its place, but sometimes we as music fans need a wrinkle.

Great point. Mine is on my old HDDVD disk. It looks and sounds great. I'd love to buy it again on Blu Ray as my HDDVD player works, but is a relic!

This production far exceeds HFO, would love to see that remastered and released on BR. As for Felder, he is not missed at all in this show as his replacement is outstanding at each and every riff. Loved the mix of solo material integrated into the show too, Walsh was incredibly good despite looking and acting like a freak. This gets 5 stars in my book and is a must have for any fan.
