5.0 out of 5 stars A must buy for anime or sci-fi fans..., October 19, 2011
This review is from: Redline [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
This is one of the most important anime to come along in years. Not only is it visually stunning, but the music and sounds make it truly brilliant. The styling of it makes it so appealing to watch that you won't want it to end. Combine that with an amazing soundtrack, and you will be glad you own it. If you have a home theater system, it will shake your walls.

This is one of those movies that even if you aren't an anime fan, you will love it. All I can say is if you are uncertain about buying it, don't be. Here is the official story synopsis since Amazon doesn't have anything up yet.

REDLINE is about the biggest and most deadly racing tournament in the universe. Only held once every five years, everyone wants to stake their claim to fame, including JP, a reckless dare-devil driver oblivious to speed limits with his ultra-customized car - all the while, organized crime and militaristic governments want to leverage the race to their own ends. Amongst the other elite rival drivers in the tournament, JP falls for the alluring Sonoshee - but will she prove his undoing, or can a high speed romance survive a mass destruction race?

Will this blu ray have the english dub?

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 15, 2011 3:30:54 PM PST
it should. it will be airing in NY and LA up until its blu ray release, tho i would give it a 4/5 due to a horrible ending but even including that it is great and worth a buy.

A news release from Anchor Bay says there will be Japanese and English language tracks on the Jan17,2012 Redline BluRay and DVD. Here's a link to the info:

I just wish Amazon would update the information on this page so people can be sure of what they're ordering.

Considering this is an anime and that the Japanese cultural difference is immense, I see no reason to complain. Not to mention this movie is constantly being compared to Akira, which is about 10 times worse (heavy violence etc.) in comparison. It's just a pair of tits. Grow up.

Oh, and Kalen..... the end sucks. It's one of the reasons I might not buy this.

@Daniel Clapp

How mature of you to be so understanding that other people might not care for things inside this film.

Also I find your review of the ending to be quite thorough using only one word to describe it, that amazingly only has one syllable. I applaud your true ability to sum up why the ending is so horrendous in one word. It is a true testament to you ability to be an accurate critic.

I must warn you that there are juvenile people that like to make other people feel bad about their own opinions on this page. So you might need to watch out what you post.

Kyle, as mentioned by various people there is no *full frontal nudity* in Redline...what you do see for a few seconds is a closeup shot of Sonoshee from her breasts up, and there is some relative context to the shot from both the shots before and after... The thing is it is just a nude shot and not sexualized in any way; the shots/ scenes before and after are more sexualized without having 'nudity'. Many anime series now are much worse than this and I do not like it... Sure, Redline could have done without the scene just like Titanic could have done without the scene. Titanic is actually worse in regards to it's nudity and sexualization compared to Redline.

I actually find the more pervasive foul language of the English Dub to be worse than a few second of non-sexualized nudity... which is one of the reasons I much prefer the Japanese Dub with English subtitles, in addition to how the English dub just changes the characters too much. Actually, with Redline you could watch it in Japanese with no subtitles and still get a whole lot from the character interactions - relationships and communication is much more visually and intricately expressed on screen than in any other anime.

Not buying Redline because of the ending makes less sense to me than not buying it because of a few second of non-sexualized nudity. I'll give you one good reason to get the Blu-Ray; it's the best Anime experience you can have on Blu-Ray, better than Evangelion 2.22, Summer Wars, and Sword of the Stranger. Audio is basically untouchable and the visuals are Top notch. It's the Tron Legacy of Anime Blu-Rays...

I will agree it is (debatebly) the best anime ever but the end is extremely sudden and did not match the speed of the movie itself. It was like getting into a car wreck at 150 MPH. Not to mention it is extremely cheesy and didn't match the feel or the movie. That is why it "sucked". But hey, I don't want to spoil anything.

The ending was "magical" (pardon the cliche), but then again, reading in between the lines, this whole movie was about the romance and not necessarily racing. It was exactly how I expected it to end given that there's no possible way to wind down on all the crazy stuff they threw in at the end without adding another half an hour. Even though I liked the movie, this doesn't rank anywhere near the "best" for me. I have a feeling a lot of people are hyping it because of the unique art and stylistic action. This movie is like a sugar rush. It was good while it lasted, but would it stand the test of time? There are anime that I can watch over and over like The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Redline is at most a 1-2 timer.
