5.0 out of 5 stars A good buy, October 4, 2011

This review is from: Garmin nüvi 50 5-inch Portable GPS Navigator(US) (Discontinued by Manufacturer) (Electronics)
I've been a happy Garmin customer for years, so when I needed a new basic GPS I decided to try their new 2012 line.

The Nüvi 50 is a basic GPS, and worked fine. Easy to use, big and readable screen, I did almost 2000 miles with it and I didn't got lost once. The operation is straightforward and Points of Interest worked fine and are really comprehensive.

At first I wasn't very happy on how the lane assist feature works, but after some time with it I got the hold of it. In fact, I drive better with that disabled, while in some circumstances it can be really helpful in other it adds too much distraction.

IMHO, an ideal GPS for people looking for a simple GPS that does the job.

Just bought a new garmin nuvi 50 LM, always satisfied with the garmin gps units. This gps is an excellent improvement over previous models, the touch screen is very responsive and has a very intuitive menu screen setups. Very quick to fix location and recalculate routes,
would recommend to buy for a gps in this price range. Looked at the new 3450 , but the price was too high for my budget.

Emilio, were you talking about the "Lane Assist" (arrows in upper left corner) or the "Junction View" (split screen) being distracting? If it's the Junction View I sort of agree with you but I found out today how to make it go away easily. If I remember right, you just touch the speed limit sign in the lower right corner and you go back to the full screen. Touch it again and get the split screen Junction View.

I've had mine about a week and so far I really like mine also. My other Garmin (for my motorcycles) is a zumo 550 and has most of the bells and whistles (that I never use.)
