This review is from: Flea, A Himalayan Adventure (Kindle Edition)
Flea is a humorous, off-the-wall companion guide to anyone walking the Everest trek. The book gives you a great description of the route from Lukla all the way to the top of the mountain, as well as the lowdown on the culture of the Sherpa's, and the significance of the mountains, which are holy to the Nepalese people - but from a flea's perspective.
As a fan of the outdoors, I loved the mountaineering aspect of the book... the crazy climbers, and the not so subtle criticism of the Everest circus by Flea. I loved that the story was told in a humorous and light hearted way...I mean how seriously can you take a flea who hates every moment of his travel experience yet describing it all so well. As comic as this story is, you realise that Flea (that's his name as well as what he is) does offers a very different perspective. Not only is everything in Flea's world larger than life, but by his insect nature, he craves security, warmth and low lighting rather than the freezing cold, bleak, dangerous and exposed mountain he ends up on - and which everyone else around him seems to love so much. It's a good reminder that everything is dependent upon perspective. There are deeper currents running through this book than just a humorous travel adventure.
And it's a thrilling read.
Recommended reading for anyone traveling to Nepal or anyone who likes a bit of attitude with their travel writing.
