Don't do it....,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dell XPS X15Z-7502ELS 15-Inch Laptop (Elemental Silver) (Personal Computers)I found this laptop on Amazon for a good price and was excited to receive the unit. The reviews that I read online were generally favorable. Once I received the unit, I found the flaws and in trying to fix the problems, I uncovered the hornets nest of issues with it.
The good... The price point for an i7 processor with the 6 gigs of Ram was a real selling point. The computer was snappy in performing tasks through native applications. The screen was vibrant and the unit was light weight.
The bad... I soon noticed that the wireless connectivity was intermittent. The response to our wireless printer was incredibly slow. The default settings let it turn off the wireless card in the event that the machine sits idle for a period of time. In theory that sounded fine but in practicality it was a pain. So, I changed that setting hoping this would fix the problem. Not so lucky. I then did a search on the model with the phrase "wireless connection slow" and behold, 48 pages of discussion on the issue on Dell's own community website. This is a known issue on the laptop and it has gone on for 9 months with no resolution.
The great.. Amazon! The ease at which to return (albeit at my cost) this unit is what keeps me a loyal Amazon customer. I simply went into my account and explained the issue and printed off the return labels and it will be on its way in the morning. I did not want to see if I could get Dell to string me out as they apparently have done with many users of this machine according to the comments from their own website.
In short, I cannot recommend this unit in any way since the issue does not seem to be isolated to one laptop but seems to be a chronic issue with the design/configuration of the product. DO NOT BUY!

Hi, just saw you review. I have same laptop but no issue with wireless connection. I have used it at home, in office and in Starbucks. Maybe Dell needs to isolate which routers are causing this issue. Not sure about Starbucks and office routers but at home I have Actiontec router.

Usually wireless products are are preloaded to shutdown wireless devices when not using them and the owner has to go in and find the issue to what is slowing it down or why they can't get on the internet. I find it best to uninstall all brand custom software when you purchase the product. These software products just bloat the HDD down anyway. Or you can just reinstall the OS and start over. Things work much faster anyway. I only use Linksey products.

ok, so your wireless connection was a bit slow and faded in an out so you rated it a 1? 1st of all this problem is EASILY fixable, all you need to do is take off the bottom and replace the wireless card for a better model, you should have known that the default wireless card wouldn't be good as it never really is. there was 1 *slight* issue that you obviously didn't take the time to look into. your review should be removed.

Thanks for this review! The websites give this laptop great reviews but after further research, I see a lot of people share your wireless issues and I really don't want to deal with that. This review helped me decide not to buy this machine.

A review is by definition an opinion of the author. My review and rating is based on my impressions. I stand by my opinion. I have no vested interest in Dell to sugar coat my opinion. I would question why you feel it necessary to defend them and this product but that is your prerogative and you are entitled to your opinion as well. With the number of choices in the laptop market for me to spend my money, I choose not to "fix" a new item and expect that this would be the responsibility of the manufacturer since many have had the same issue. As stated in my review, this issue has been a known issue for over 9 months and they have not addressed it. That is not acceptable to me from a manufacturer. Perhaps you have a different opinion of how a new product should function.
I "should have known that the default wireless card wouldn't be good as it never really is"? A refuse to accept that premise.
I moved on and purchased an ASUS and have been very pleased with its performance and price.

I noticed the slow wireless out of the box but realized the computer as setting up (downloading files and installing). After a day, it settled down and wireless is fast and unimpeded. So try to give it time for the computer to settle in. Hope that helps.

Which Asus did you end up getting and is it comparable to this 15z? Thanks!

Your review should be removed! Why should anyone with a brand new computer have to replace components? It is his opinion that it gets a 1, what you think only matters to you, write your own review.
