5.0 out of 5 stars 2012 "Forever Marilyn Blu-ray Collection" Upgraded, January 16, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Marilyn Monroe: Classic 9 Film Collection [Blu-Ray] (Blu-ray)
This is basically the 2012 "Forever Marilyn Blu-ray Collection" of seven movies (still available for $37.75), repackaged and with "Bus Stop" and "Niagara" added. Both of the added movies are available separately for $18.96 each. This nine movie set is a great deal if you want "Bus Stop" and "Niagara," even if you already have the seven movie collection, because for only $2 more than the cost of the two separate movies you get the other seven in individual Blu-ray packaging. If you don't care about "Bus Stop" and "Niagara," or the individual Blu-ray packaging, the seven movie collection is the better deal.

By the way, the actual run time is far from the 122 minutes shown by Amazon, it is as follows:

Bus Stop 105 minutes
Niagara 89 minutes
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes 91 minutes
How to Marry a Millionaire 96 minutes
River of No Return 91 minutes
There's no Business Like Show Business 117 minutes
The Seven Year Itch 104 minutes
Some Like it Hot 121 minutes
The Misfits 125 minutes

Total Run Time 939 minutes

The Forever Marilyn Blu-ray Collection

Tom Etheridge's review has sold me on this Amazon's 9 film collection.
Thanks Amazon and Tom.

Would you be so kind to let me know if this collection is strictly A/1 region or maybe multi region? I would really appreciate your help, thank you!

I currently have only the seven disk "Forever Marilyn" collection, and all seven of these disks are region A according to the code on the outer package. Also, the two added disks, "Bus Stop" and "Niagara," are listed as A/1 on their individual pages, where their cases look identical to those shown on the nine disk set page. All disks are Blu-ray only, so there should be no numerical (DVD) region code. I have ordered the nine disk set, but not yet received it. I never worry about this because I have a region free player, but Amazon is usually pretty good about pointing out region coding other than A/1, including region 0 (or region free). So the fact that they do not list it for this product, and do list A/1 for the two added disks sold separately elsewhere, is a pretty good indication that this is a North America only product, unless you too have a region free player. But I can't be sure until I receive the set I ordered. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

There are several region free (or all region) Blu-ray players available. I got mine in 2008 from 220-electronics.com. Their site is still there and selling region free Blu-ray players from $99. Mine is a higher-end Panasonic model, but they have a range of choices. And I'm sure there are other sites that sell both region free DVD and Blu-ray players as well (I have both). I suggest you check this one out first, then use your favorite search engine to find others, so you can compare prices and features. I am very happy to be able to search for the programming I want world-wide. And it doesn't cost that much.

Great review of this collection. So many reviewers review the films themselves in spite of the fact that most people buying collections like this have already seen the films many times. Many, like me, own them already on regular dvd discs.
I was going to compare the Forever Marilyn Collection to this one to find out about how the packaging compares and if my favorite MM film, Bus Stop, was included. You made it easy for me to decide. Thank you.
I'll be purchasing this collection.

Do you have any idea why Ladies of the Chorus has never been released on region 1 or blu-ray disc? Every Baby Needs a Da-Da-Daddy sung by a 21 year old Marilyn (the scene was filmed in May of 1948) is a treasure every MM fan should have access to.

In reply to an earlier post on Jan 17, 2014 6:41:21 AM PST
You can find "Ladies of the Chorus" [PAL] (All Regions) on Amazon, ASIN: B0088JWSGY. Most, if not all, modern DVD players will play all major broadcast formats (NTSC, PAL, and SECAM) as long as the Region code of the player is compatible with the DVD. This DVD should play on any player.

There is one other possibility, the "Amazon-limited Marilyn Monroe Complete Collection" (19-disc) [Blu-ray] (2012), ASIN: B007UVGXN0. If it is truly complete, it should include this movie. Unfortunately, Amazon does not list the movies included in this collection, and there have been no customer reviews yet.

Hope this was helpful.

Thanks for getting back to me. I saw the all regions version. I'm a bit sceptical because it looks suspiciously like a horrible Korean import I have that's also all regions. For example, the Korean subtitles are written across the dolls in the "Every Baby" number.
I found the limited collection you told me about also listed as: "Marilyn The Premium Collection (blu ray)" ASIN:B007UVGSEY. IT'S NOT THERE!!! What kind of tired world do we live in where Kim Jung Un can enjoy more of MM's films than I can????

BTW, I perused your other reviews. You got hated on for your opinion of the Cleopatra/Whatever Col. LOL. WTF is wrong w/ these people? Colbert's Cleopatra is ok. The costumes and decor are great. Liz IS Cleopatra IMO. Even if she screeches like a fishwife throughout. "Kneel before me!" Luv my divas...

Thanks again.

Could you check if Niagara has Korean Subtitle? because the previous 7 blu rays all has Korean subtitles even it doesn't say on the box
