Love Mo Willems but this book is kind of meh,

This review is from: Let's Go for a Drive! (An Elephant and Piggie Book) (Hardcover)
My toddler has a lot of Mo Willems books and loves most of them. This one, I have to say, disappoints because of the expectation that it will be about going for a drive. After all, there's a picture of Elephant and Piggie in a car right on the cover. Plus the title. But the whole book is about planning and thinking about going for a drive. There's a lot of repetition ("Mappity map map!") that feels...hate to say it...a little lazy. No driving ever happens in the book, no trip is taken, and no transportation occurs. My toddler was disappointed and so was I. Generally I appreciate the simplicity and wit of the Elephant and Piggie books, but this one didn't work for me.

I have to agree. It's okay, but not the best of the series. I was really looking forward to this. My favorites are "I Broke My Trunk", and "We Are In a Book".

Thanks for posting this. I am looking for a book about driving a car, which this one seemed promising. I will keep looking.

I actually love that they don't end up driving. Elephant is so confident that he has thought of absolutely everything but then he misses the most obvious thing that they need for a drive. They are both disappointed but then Piggie has an idea to turn the situation into something fun and imaginative. I think it is kind of genius.
