This review is from: You Are Your Own Gym: The Bible of Bodyweight Exercises for Men and Women (Paperback)
I was skeptical about this book, but now I'm a believer. I read through the ten chapters before getting to the exercises and thought I was ready when it came time to start the workouts. Well, I was wrong - the beginning exercises KICKED MY BUTT. No problem, because he includes modifications to make the exercises easier or harder as needed.
Going to the gym didn't work for me, mostly because of time and cost. The plan in this book costs only the price of the book and nothing else, although I did invest in a cheap timer Gymboss GB2010 SILVER
I keep referring back to the book for the routines and various exercises, and also have found it useful to reread most of the introductory chapters. There is also help on his website, which has an active forum that Mark and several others keep going with good advice. There is also a Facebook page if you want to keep track of what Mark is up to, but it really doesn't add anything to your routine.
Here's the thing - I never find the workouts boring, like at the gym. Don't know why, but I look forward to doing it. It takes no prep time (gym clothes, driving, equipment), and you're done in the time it takes to get ready and go to the gym. Before reading and trying it I thought it would be a simple routine that would lose it's effectiveness quickly - that will never happen. This program will work for life, for anybody. Sure, you can modify it (easily), add to it, or work it into your own fitness lifestyle, but you can also use it as is for very good results.
