This review is from: Mozart: The Magic Flute (Audio CD)
As the others have noted, this set has many admirable qualities: Wunderlich's singing is a dream, and the conducting is a delight. Nonetheless, I find that the weakness of the two female leads makes this a less-than-satisfying recording. Roberta Peters' Queen is out of control: the high passages are terrifying, but for the wrong reasons. Evelyn Lear's Pamina is not comparable with those on a number of other recorded versions of this opera. As a result, there is too much magic that is missing from this recording.
