5.0 out of 5 stars Leaps and bounds better than swiping, October 23, 2012
By
This review is from: MOGA Mobile Gaming System for Android 2.3+ (Video Game)
**UPDATE - The app MOGA Universal Driver on Google Play now allows you to use the MOGA as a bluetooth controller for non-Pivot games and emulators. This just upped the value for me.**

MOGA makes gaming a way better experience than the swipe and on-screen controls that a lot of these games otherwise rely on. Without MOGA you are either playing a game tailor-made for swiping or playing a version with questionable or frustrating on-screen controls. Virtua Tennis Challenge was what sold it for me. Really feels like a console experience on my phone. I've pretty much got a dual core computer in my pocket, so it is nice to not have to fork out $150+ on an additional console.

Some additional thoughts:

- Ergonomics are very pleasing (I guess having multiple viewing angles in the arm would be nice, but the default angle works for me)
- Battery life is pretty great (USB charging would be a nice add, but the AAAs get you lots of hours)
- My phone is super secure in the arm/clasp, no fear of it falling, slipping, or breaking

If some of the other major publishers get on board this thing could be 5 stars. That being said, the launch library is enough to keep you pretty busy. I didn't have the issues that some other reviewers had with this not syncing with non-MOGA games - specifically because that isn't what was promised when I bought this. It is sort of it's own curated ecosystem, but the games in that ecosystem are guaranteed to work. I'm OK with that. If you could sync with an emulator that would be gravy. Maybe someone will figure out a hack in the near future and solve that.

"I didn't have the issues that some other reviewers had with this not syncing with non-MOGA games"

So you're OK with purchasing a second copy of a game you already own, just so MOGA will acknowledge that you own it?

Peter,
I was actually referring to the emulator issue. I didn't care that it wasn't syncing to games outside of the Pivot app, since that wasn't what I was excepting the device to do per se. I did recently update my review to note that there is an App on Google Play that will allow you to do this. I have been playing Super Soccer on and SNES emulator all day today with my Moga. Works pretty well.

As far as re-purchasing games, I did eventually encountered this when I tried to play Dungeon Hunter 3. I talked to customer service and it looks like it is something they are working out with Gameloft. The latest MOGA-enhanced version isn't on Google play until the beginning of November or something. In the meantime, I was given a link to download a free MOGA version of Dungeon Hunter from Gameloft.

Lol. That is a free game already. I could have given you that link as well.
