Highly Recommended book on massage therapy
Excellent choice for the student (or practitioner)of massage therapy. Great as a reference guide to follow up on lessons formally learned in school. Very well organized and carefully explained techniques. Good use of illustrations. Very helpful bibliography for further study on every topic covered.

Tappan Massage book
This is a textbook and does not explain the procedures/protocol I was expecting for lymphatic drainage massage. It only gave a brief description and some pictures. I needed more detail information. Wish I could have gotten this book from the local library, but someone stole it.

A very good book, October 27, 2005
This review is from: Tappan's Handbook of Healing Massage Techniques: Classic, Holistic and Emerging Methods (4th Edition) (Paperback)
This is a very good book and the companion CD-Rom is really very helpful.
Did not give 5 stars though because the Cd-Rom could have been made more friendly to navigate (maybe including a "play all" option) and should allow us to view the presentations in full screen and not limited to a very small image.

Excellent Reference book and CD-ROM, May 21, 2007
This review is from: Tappan's Handbook of Healing Massage Techniques: Classic, Holistic and Emerging Methods (4th Edition) (Paperback)
This is a thoroughly user friendly book for the student of massage, and the best general reference book on massage that I've found. The book attempts to cover it all and does a fairly good job. Particularly good is its section on Western Massage Techniques, especially those demonstrated in the video. The chapter and section in the video on trigger points and their release are particularly helpful for athletes.

absolutely the best introduction to massage available, October 15, 2007
This review is from: Tappan's Handbook of Healing Massage Techniques: Classic, Holistic and Emerging Methods (4th Edition) (Paperback)
There is no question that this book is the best introduction to massage. It is written both with heart and with the correct information you need as a beginging student. You can feel the passion of the writers for the subject, and no wonder, Tappan is one of the most famous massage therapists America ever had. The authors write so sympathetically that you are pulled further into the book. This is an amazing accomplishment in a college level textbook. I am in love with this book! It integrates Eastern and Western styles beautifully. A beautiful labor of love. This book is also on the recommended study list by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Body Work. Not many books made that cut. To get started all you need in addition to this book is a great anatomy and physiology book like my favorite by Tortora and Grabowski.

My study group and I found this book as a good reference for the NCETMB (National Certification Exam for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork). It helped us to thoroughly understand massage theory. We all passed the NCBTMB the first time by the help of this book and the following which is also on amazon.com: The Ultimate Study Guide for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork: Key Review Questions and Answers (Vol 1) ISBN: 0971999643 (Vol 2) ISBN: 0971999651(Vol 3) ISBN: 097199966X Make your life easier for the NCETMB, study with these books.

Good Results from Extra Efforts, February 7, 2010
This review is from: Tappan's Handbook of Healing Massage Techniques: Classic, Holistic and Emerging Methods (4th Edition) (Paperback)
I had bought this same book used last Oct, and it arrived in a large mailing envelope. The CD included w/the book had never been opened, and I discovered it was badly cracked. It was likely damaged in the mail, while on its way to me. I tried to buy a CD replacement thru the phone #/website on the disc but was told it's only available w/the book, which is quite expensive new. At Amazon, I decided to buy another used version w/unopened CD included, but this time, I emailed the seller, Shari, and told her my concerns & to please use protective mailing w/this book. She respectfully did this, and the book arrived w/no damage. I appreciated her careful response. All books w/CD's should be carefully packaged.
The book is a great reference and good to have available for technique reminders.
