Great Book for Those Just Learning About Dog Training
I purchased this book for my son (age 14) when he received a puppy for his birthday. It is fantastic. The steps of dog training are explained in a very simple manner with lots of pictures. Both he and I used the techniques described in the book to train the puppy (a Sheltie). Within a few weeks, the dog was able to sit, give us his paw and lie down on command. I am going...

Ok but VERY Basic.
This book has some good ideas and good techniques but it is VERY basic and short. Seems more like a picture oriented training manual for kids. Not really what I was looking for but ok if you just want some good advice and pictures.

I purchased this book for my son (age 14) when he received a puppy for his birthday. It is fantastic. The steps of dog training are explained in a very simple manner with lots of pictures. Both he and I used the techniques described in the book to train the puppy (a Sheltie). Within a few weeks, the dog was able to sit, give us his paw and lie down on command. I am going to buy another copy of this book to give to my brother and his wife, who just purchased a puppy.

I love this book! I borrowed several books from our public library on Dog Training after adding a new puppy to our household. I have always had dogs and don't consider myself as a 'beginner' dog owner. The information in Dr. Fogle's book is written in a clear, concise manner. Lots of pictures for reinforcment of instructions. Would be excellent for a first time dog owner! I read it cover to cover in one evening. That is something a busy mom of 4 can really appreciate! Some material I already knew, some I needed to be reminded of and some was completely new. I am going to purchase this book as a 'keeper'.

dog training easy complete, August 2, 2005

I bought this book for my grandson 13yrs. old he read the entire book for a week before picking up his 8 week old puppy, within two weeks he bonded with his dog, house trained, and taught her to sit, stay, fetch, ly down, come, walk on a leash, all the time using the book as a guide and reference. His Lab. will be a very well mannered companion to him. On his own took the responsibility to find a vet, buy a kennel from lawn mowing earnings, the right dog food and toys etc. The book was far more valuable then the price. Good with Lots of Pictures, September 18, 2005

Lots of nice pictures. The book is good by Art of Raising a Puppy and Good Owner Great Dog are substantially better as they provide more thorough explanations of the mentality of a dog. But this book is a good pictorial cut to the chase type book.

Well written book that was fun to read and to review over and over. The book has many pictures that demonstrated the different training activities. The book read by the whole family, including my kids (ages 7 - 18). It is a great reference book for training a dog.

I recently acquired an Alaskan Klee Kai (mini husky) & he thinks he's the leader of my pack - I bought this book hoping that as a new puppy owner it would help me better understand how to train him, but it was so basic that everything it explained I knew already.

The perfect dog training book!, May 14, 2008

This is my second purchase of this book. The first copy disapeard. When we obtained our second dog I had to have this book. It is filled with great ideas and very simple easy to understand training tips. My youngest son trained our first dog to laydown using this book and he was 8 at the time. AWESOME book!

A simple book, easy to follow.
Its a little heavy on the treats system for me to say I Love it. It does however, tell you to eventually wean out the treats and replace with praise.
It certainly helped my daughter get a start on working with our puppy, and it does have plenty of other good tips on restraint, and control.
I really want to give it 4 stars... but the treat thing... just keeps it at 3.5

This is a nice coffee table picture book. However, when a specific behavior issue comes up about my dog's behavior the text is lacking. Wish the author would give more specifics on the select topics covered in this book. Not an on the spot survival kit!
