Note: This review is for the paperback BOOK edition. The Kindle edition has fewer recipes!

I am a big fan of "The Chew". It is a program that I record and look forward to in the evenings when I watch television. This book is divided by the seasons and features recipes from each of the hosts. Every recipe has an indicator bar that denotes cooking time, skill level, prep time and cost. Icons indicate whether a recipe is "Light & Healthy", "Simple Italian", "Viewer's Choice", "Two-Fer (Two Meals in One)", "5-in-5" (5 ingredients in 5 minutes), "Kid Friendly" or "Cocktail". Most (but not all) feature a photo. The book also has interviews with the hosts, photos of celebrity guests on the show and sections about the holidays, entertaining, etc.

The Chew: Food. Life. Fun. Is an upbeat cookbook because it doesn't take cooking so seriously--enjoy and don't be afraid to cook!

Categories in the book include light and healthy, simple Italian, viewer's choice (from the show), two meals in one, 5 ingredients in 5 minutes, kid friendly and cocktails.

Each recipe also includes how difficult it is to make--but all are either easy or moderate. They also include the price range to prepare.

The authors share recipes and information about themselves, including what made them fall in love with food in the first place.

The style of the book is casual and user-friendly. You will get to know the authors a bit more by reading the book. There are also photos from the show and facts about it...

Which leads to...this is a basic cookbook that is fine for fans of The Chew, but certainly not all that comprehensive.
Instead, it is a fun look at the people from the show and some of their favorite recipes.

I have tried a few recipes:

Roasted Chicken with Sweet Potatoes and Sage: lovely. A classic with a nice twist--sage and sweet potatoes...love it.

Banana Pudding: crazy delicious--insanely soft and sweet; gooey and chewy

Potato Leek Soup: a little thin; not exciting

Superfoods Smoothie: go-to health boost

If you are a fan you will love this book. If you aren't, there are lots of tantalizing recipes to try. I have ear-marked: Cast-Iron Pork Pie, Chile Chicken Flautas and Bacon, Egg and Cheese Casserole. That said, this cookbook is definitely limited in scope--it has about 100 recipes. Unless you are familiar with the show and the types of dishes the chefs make, I would suggest you flip through the book before buying to decide if there are enough recipes that you would want to make.

If you enjoy the show, you will like the book. It gives details about how the show was developed and came together. The hosts write about their food philosophy and their experiences on the show. Each host has a variety of recipes from appetizers to desserts.
I purchased the book new from Amazon.

I've only had it for a day and it's already one of my favorite cookbooks. It's really an injustice to call it a cookbook bc it's so much more than that. If you're looking for recipe ideas, ideas for entertaining, COCKTAIL IDEAS, then this is PERFECT for you!

Thanks Chew!

Being a loyal fan of The Chew TV show, I was delighted to see that a cook book was published with some of the superb recipes that aired on various shows. The TV show is my absolute favorite, and every day I run home to see it on my lunch hour. The cast of The Chew has all the ingredients of a successful show. The hour just speeds along and the recipes are fantastic. What makes it enjoyable to watch is how terrific all the cast members are and how respectfully they treat each other - egos have been left at the door. Love, love the show and hope it continues for a long time. We can look forward to another cook book, one for every season. Thank you.

P.S. I have tried so many of the recipes shown on the show and all turned out great.

I only recently started watching The Chew, and I have come to love the mix of fun, laughter and cooking. I was excited to hear about the book being published, and I do not regret getting it. I love the format - it is not just a recipe book - but an entertaining read along with some great recipes.

I plan to enjoy both the reading and cooking some great foods. Bravo to The Chew!

The Chew: Food. Life. Fun. book is a lot more than a cookbook. It has easy to prepare but delicious recipes and stays true to the tone of the fun daily television show it is derived from. You really get the feeling that each of the five hosts is talking to you and sharing their tips for great meals and more.

If you want all the over 100 recipes don't buy the Kindle edition. After purchasing and downloading it I kept wondering why there were only about 20 recipes (almost none that I would have wanted) and not over 100. Didn't realize it was a scaled down version of the original book. Very disappointed if I would have known this I would have purchased the book. Guess I'll go to the library to get the book and the rest of the recipes.
