Awesome Book !!!!!! worth the money for sure guides you step by step setting up call manger express and UC500 for small business.
even for people who dont wanna go for CCNA-V certification this book will help for setting up voice infrastructure for small office.

This book seems to be very well laid out with tons of great reference material. Jeremy Cioara does a great job of covering the material and makes it into an easy read. I have completed some of the exams for CCVP, but have decided to go ahead and get my CCNA VOICE before finishing the rest of the CCVP track. Plus after 6/09 it will be required anyway.

Do you need help in trying to pass the Implementing Cisco IOS Unified Communications (IIUC) exam (640-460)? If you do, then this book is for you! Authors Jeremy Cioara, Michael J. Cavanaugh, and Kris A. Krake, have done an outstanding job of writing a book that is also intended to tremendously increase your chances of passing the CCNA Voice certification exam.
Authors Cioara, Cavanaugh and Krake, begin with a discussion of the traditional telephony world. Then, the authors focus on the components of a Cisco VoIP network. Next, they discuss the preparation and base configuration of the LAN infrastructure to support VoIP devices. The authors also cover everything you need to know to get Cisco Unified Communication Manager Express (CME) ready to support IP phones. They continue by focusing on the process to create and assign directory numbers to Cisco IP phones. Then, the authors examine feature after feature that are supported by the CME router. Next, they examine the connections to the outside world through the PSTN or over an IP network. The authors also introduce the Cisco Express (CUE), describing the differences between hardware platforms, the software components, and licensing options. They continue by discussing the configuration of the Cisco Unity Express platform. Then, the authors introduce the concept of Unified Communications (UC) and explain how the Smart Business Communications System (SBCS) is positioned to deliver UC to the small-medium business (SMB) market. Finally, they discuss the process of provisioning the UC500 Series for Small Business.
This most excellent book has been written with both a real-world and certification-study approach at the same time. Perhaps more importantly, as you read through this great boo and study the configuration examples and exam tips, you will have a true sense of understanding of how you can deploy a VoIP system, while at the same time feeling equipped to pass the CCNA Voice certification exam.

This is an excellent book and the coverage of the exam is simply superb. Some configuration guides from the [...] sites can help a lot to understand some of the concepts in much depth, as it is not meant to cover most of the topics in depth for this certification/program, but the book by itself covers all the qquestions you will find in the exam.
I think it is also an excellent resource as a reference for some basic VoIP deployments.
A last word for exam takers: Be strong on the basics. if you learn and really understand the "key topics" and "notes" in this book you will pass the exam with a very high score, as I just did. Great job, Mr. Cioara.

This book has good information for an introduction to VOIP and easy to follow commands for programming the necessary equipment for your VOIP network. Excellent study guide.

Not bad, but, May 7, 2010

Alright, I think most of the key topics are here and you have to love the authors writing style. Couple this book with the lab guide and I would say you have a decent chance of passing the exam. Several areas it was hurting though, gatekeepers, UC500 and Unity. I found that both in real world and in the exam that this book even with the lab guide just didn't cut it.
You are going to have to find alternate reading on these subject matters. Personally I found Cvoice training from Cisco press covered the Gatekeepers well enough and Cisco offers some UC500 lab guides off their site. As for unity, you'll just have to play with it. 4 stars, had to knock one off for the gaps on the UC500 etc.

Best Cisco Press Book Yet!, February 17, 2010

No longer fear to tread in the world of IP Telephony. This is an exceptionally concrete first step approach in delving into Cisco Voip. I believe the consensus to be- that when Cisco realized that they had such a quality product in their SRST solution regarding Call Manager Express they re-packaged the thing as a stand alone solution for remote site offices. (Of course it's no longer know as Call Manager, but Communication Manager)((copyright 2009-sweet))
Point is: this is a very well done piece of instructional literature. I still think we'll bring in a consultant for the first go around, but if i had nothing other to do all the live long day, I'm sure I could eek out this roll out myself for a 15-30 user remote site.
Testing in a few days with confidence. The test on the companion CD is quality work as well. Kudo's to Jeremy and the guys on this collaboration.

Ce livre est formidable, et serait plus efficace en approfondissant certains aspects.

This book is well written and Jeremy does a good job relaying what you need to know to take the test. These books follow well with Jeremy's CBT Nugget of 640-460. The mock network in the book coincides with networks that Jeremy sets up in his CBT nuggets labs.
Overall a very good read with good detail on how to set up cme and cue on a lab network.
