2112 is a masterpiece in progressive rock and one of the very best recording's Rush ever did. It was their first album that was truly progressive while Caress Of Steel had 2 songs that were a bit more refined, a lot of the album was rawer and more straight forward in Bastille Day or Lakeside Park. Don't get me wrong, their first 3 albums are good hard rock and even a bit underrated but 2112 is the album that Rush really got it right and the album that put them on the map. From the iconic opening title track on you can tell that Rush really found their direction by this point. A 20 minute performance which makes the album alone. Progressive rock was around for about a decade before 2112 but it was very different from the others, it was more technical than Yes and heavier than The Moody Blues. The melody, the complexity and the heavier edge and the unique lyrics is what stands out about 2112. The drumming is some of the best drumming in rock history as well with Neil Peart as one of the all time greatest drummers which his skills are another part of 2112 or Rush that stand out which this was his 3rd with the band and really hit his stride here. Alex Lifeson's guitar skills which his techniques are often overlooked compared to other legends, maybe not a top 10 but he has his spot up there. Geddy Lee of course stands out with his signature vocals which the screeching is as well, it does get a little old but 2112 went for a much edgier sound which worked and his vocals mellowed out by their next doing more standard vocals as well as the band which went for a more melodic direction. A Passage To Bangkok is a nice, simpler rocker which I always find myself turning up on my stereo. One of my favorites from 2112 as well as a nice change of pace after the long, epic title track. Twilight Zone and Something For Nothing are some other great moments that 2112 has which are unfairly overlooked, not just good 2112 songs but great Rush songs in general. Tears is a solid ballad as well as the upbeat, melodic Lessons which aren't worth missing either. 2112 really is one of the greatest moments for Rush and the point where they really received recognition. A progressive rock and hard rock masterpiece from start to finish.

Being that this release is being touted as a "Limited Edition" because of the hologram, are they going to release a "regular" version without the hologram? Just asking.
