Yes the milk does get hot if you leave it til the warmer shuts off. But I usually check the bottle 1/2 way through the time (est. 3-4min), shake the bottle and the milk is PERFECT!!!!! Therefore it takes a total of 3-4 minutes for you to have a warm bottle, much quicker than putting it in boiling water. 2 other good things about this warmer are: 1)it has the auto shut-off capability unlike other warmers, where you have to unplug the unit and 2)it is small and doesn't take up too much space on your countertop.

Goldilocks would lose her patience...not always "just right", May 27, 2003
Heating breastmilk...who knew it would be such a science! The microwave will cause loss of nutrients and hot spots, and a pan of hot water will take an agonizingly long time when accompanied by a hungry, crying baby. Enter the Quick Serve Bottle Warmer, what I thought would be the most convenient method. It is...and well, it isn't.Yes, this warmer is convenient, as it can heat bottles in under the five minutes it advertises, especially if you are using disposable bags or drop-in liners. However, it can get these bags extremely hot, so you need to stand by the warmer and test the bottle periodically. Regular plastic bottles tend to take longer and don't heat up as well. The performance of the warmer is not consistent. It works well sometimes, but usually only if you pay close attention to it, testing the bottle as it warms. Goldilocks would lose her patience with this one, as it is hardly ever "just right". Here's how it works: You fill the included blue vial to the first line for smaller bottles (4 oz.), the top line for bigger bottles (8 oz.). You dump the water (which is a tiny amount) directly into the chamber where the bottle will sit. Place the bottle in and press the button on the front. In about 30 seconds steam begins to form and in about two minutes (when the nearly all the water has been turned to steam) the unit automatically shuts off. This does not mean, however, that the bottle is done. It may need to sit there longer if you have more liquid or a larger bottle. And, with drop-ins, it may need to be removed from the warmer sooner. Some problems with the warmer include: - The blue filling vial. It is difficult to see the fill lines on it, especially at night. A clear fill cup with printed lines would be visually better. Moreover, the amount they suggest for smaller vs. bigger bottles doesn't necessarily fit your own bottles. You need to test it out and see what amount of water works best for you. And there's such a small amount of water that you're using that it is difficult to use the same exact amount each time. - Smaller bottles. Steam quickly rises around smaller/thinner bottles, making them too hot to pick up and swirl to mix or to test the heat of the bottle. - Wait 10 minutes to try again. The instructions state that the unit needs 10 minutes to cool down if you need to use it again. Well, I have gotten it to work again more quickly than that (sometimes immediately), although, I don't know if this is damaging the product in the long run. This is why it's better to put MORE water than you need into the unit and test the bottle as it warms. This way you're not stuck waiting for the unit to work again to heat up a cool bottle. These caveats aside, this is a nice accessory for your nursery, especially for late-night feedings. No drowsy trips to the kitchen. Keep a cooler next to it with your bottle and you never need to stumble to a downstairs kitchen. The bottom line: if you realize that heating bottles is not an exact science and that every bottle needs to be tested and adjusted, then you will do well with this warmer. If you think there is a magic alarm that will go off when the bottle hits the exact perfect temperature, well, I've got a bridge in Brooklyn for ya...

Very Nice, November 3, 2001
It's a convenient product for those finicky babies who likes their food warm. On the plus side, it's smaller than most warmers so it doesn't take up much space. It has a measured water cup on the side to indicate how much water is necessary for steaming. It fits all bottles including the Avent (4 and 9oz.) with a detachable ring on top for even heating. A convenient lighted button turns off when all the water has evaporated from the steamer indicating the bottle is ready. The only problem I have with it is it initially requires a few attempts,by adding or removing water, to get the temperature just right for the amount of formula used as it tends to overheat or underheat.

Great Product!!! Can't believe I waited to get it, February 11, 2002
This is a great warmer. I use the Playtex Disposable Bottles and it works wonders. There are not that many warmers that you can use for Disposable Bottles and this is so perfect. You can use any kind of bottle or baby food jar. The only difficult thing at first is that you have to try and find out the perfect amount of water to add for the amount that you are heating. I guess it's just one setback for being so versatile and accomodating any type of bottle. We love it. It's so small that you can leave it on the countertop and can even take it on outings, it has a convenient measuring cup, it automatically shuts off when it is done, and it is so quick in heating. This is a great product. Don't wait to buy it like I did.

Wonderful Warmer :), December 27, 2001
I wasn't originally planning on using a bottle warmer...didn't think it was needed. I was wrong! We were heating up tap water in a cup and placing the bottle in the cup to warm up...that took WAY TOO LONG! I purchased this warmer because of it's size and the other online reviews I had read. All you do is plug it in, fill the measuring cup to the desired level(you might have to do some trial and error here to get the right water amount) pour the water in and press the start button. The great thing is it will automatically shut off when the heating process is finished. I use Gerber bottles and it works well! It works with ANY bottles though. It's soooo easy to use!

Great warmer!, December 18, 2001
I have the From Dusk To Dawn warmer which is wonderful but is to big to carry the whole thing back and forth from the kitchen to the bedroom at night and vice versa. That's why I bought this one to keep on the kitchen counter for daytime feedings. I am so glad I did. This is a great warmer! Its terrific design holds ANY kind of bottle PLUS includes a special basket to heat baby food jars. The water vile is transparent and has lines so you can customize and remember the perfect water level for the amount of formula your heating. The "on" button lights up when it is running and shuts off automatically when it is fully heated. (My 4 yr old son even tells me when the bottle is ready) Its also nice and small so it doesnt take up much room on your counter. I'm very glad I purchased this product.

effective, but don't go far while heating, July 11, 2003
By A Customer
I found this bottle warmer very effective for the price, as long as you monitor the temperature closely. My daughter is almost 3 months old now and I use this warmer every night to heat my breat milk. It heats much faster than running hot water over the bottle. I can heat one of my daughters bottles, directly from the fridge, (3-4 ounces) in about 1 minute. This is a great feature when your baby is screaming to eat and you're half asleep. The only draw back is that I have to stand over the heater and periodically take the bottle out and check the temperature - but not a big deal when it only takes about 60 seconds. In almost 3 months, I've only overheated 1 bottle. This has been a life saver with those middle of the night feedings.

Great for Playtex Bottles - Just don't leave unattended!, January 30, 2004
By A Customer
I have owned this bottle warmer for a little over a month. My main reason for purchasing it was because it can be used to heat the Playtex bottles with the disposable liners. I'd been heating them in my ancient microwave, but as the baby started taking more formula - requiring more heating time - more than once the liner developed a nice leaky hole. Not cool at 2am. I like this warmer for several reaons. It is versatile: you can use it to quickly heat standard bottles, disposable ones AND baby food jars. There's a lift out basket for disposable bottles and baby food jars. For regular bottles there's a ring attachment that centers the bottle. It has automatic shut-off. Because I was replacing a warmer that had no features on it whatsoever (add water, plug it in), to me this was a plus. Especially in the middle of the night, I sometimes would forget to unplug the old warmer. This warmer is also compact. It doesn't take up a lot of room on the counter, and you could put this thing almost anywhere. There's only one thing that irks me about this warmer, and that is the fact that it does not heat consistently. It is marketed as such that you could fill the measuring cup to a certain level for a particular bottle, hit the button, and with the automatic shut off you'll have your bottle heated properly. Not quite. You could heat 2 identical bottles with the same amount of water and get 2 different results. At first I thought with a little trial and error I could figure out the proper combination - my goal was to be able to warm the bottle while I changed the baby's diaper. (you know - the whole multitasking thing) Every time I have left this warmer unattended I have overheated the bottles. So, that said I would recommend that you fill the measuring cup to the max and just periodically remove the bottle, shake it, and test the formula or milk. That way you won't end up with an ice-cold bottle and you certainly won't overheat it. All in all - it was a good buy for me, and I would purchase it again. It doesn't do *exactly* what I thought it would do, but when attended, it gets the job done. Anything is better than a leaky bottle at 2am :)

I Love This Bottle Warmer!, March 22, 2002
I added this bottle warmer to my registry because the "Night and Day" warmer took up too much space on my countertop, and I am so glad I did. It is great to heat disposable Playtex bottles. I did have some problems with overheating at first, but I just learned to take the bottle out before the warmer finished to check it. I am sure if I worked a little with the water level (The 4 oz. measurement makes the bottle just a little too warm.) that I would have a perfect bottle every time. I look forward to heating baby food with it in the future. I do agree that the blue measuring cup is a little hard to read, and I plan to ask The First Years to change the color to clear. Even though it is hard to read, I have become such a pro that I can guess very closely how much water to add to the measuring cup. I only wish that there was a car adapter for it because most car warmers do not take disposable bottles. All in all, it was a great bargain, and it serves its purpose well. I plan on buying one to take to the sitter when I go back to work!

It does the job . . . but there are better, June 7, 2003
This thing did a fine job heating up the bottles. I found it difficult to heat up small bottles, because if you put a couple too many drops of water in the steamer, it would practically cook the formula. For larger bottles, it was fine. There are other warmers that look far better than this one. Given the fact that you will use this thing many times a day for many days, spend the extra ten bucks and get something a little better.
