5.0 out of 5 stars "I think the trolls' left the dungeons.", November 15, 2002
A Kid's Review
Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
This set is great! I got it from my friend on my birthday and once I put it together I couldn't wait to get my hands on more Harry potter legos. My sister got me the Quidditch practice set and my other friend got me the final challenge. My mom got me the dueling club too!! The best ones are Quidditch practice and the dueling club because you san acually play with it. The Quidditch Practice one has a catapault so you can lauch the Quaffle into the golden hoop. The dueling club has a little knob on the stage that you twist and the person standing on it ( Malfoy, Harry, Gilderoy, or Snape.) goes flying of the stage into the wall. All of these are good and i'm still trying to get all of them.

4.0 out of 5 stars The LEGO Harry Potter Set: Troll on the Loose is so cool!!!!, September 28, 2002
A Kid's Review
Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars Educational:2.0 out of 5 stars
This Lego set is pretty fun and very durable (Compare to larger and more complex Lego sets). The Harry and Troll's pants and cloak etc. are hard to get on. As usual. Lego never made it easy when building the Mini People (Or "monsters" in this case!). The way the sink can break down and the Troll with a realistic club and the way it looks that it could destroy everything in it's path is cool. However, it's NOT A CHALLENGE to anyone above 7. I got it done in 2 min. and 27 sec. I enjoy a Lego Challenge at night on Saturday and watching cartoons or "Kid" Comedy Shows (Example: Lizzie McGuire, Even Stevens, Boy Meets World or Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: The TV Show etc.). The Lego Set: Dinosaur Adventures is a great challenge. Lego has it's Pros and it's Cons on their toys. I am a boy. Like every boy in the USA, every boy loves Legos (And some girls to).

P.S. For those who like to build and play this is for you!(Play with the people on your creation if you see what I mean.)
I am one of those boys or girls.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Price is Right, January 16, 2002
By Homa Woodrum (NV United States) - See all my reviews
Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
I personally am not fond of the mountain troll in the movie, the book, or the PC game. However, lego mountain troll is a different story! Even though only one arm swings (an oversight by lego because he needs to swing his club AND be able to hold Harry in his other hand) Mr. Mountain Troll gets a spiffy loin cloth that spans the girth of his belly and a neat vest. His legs have sort of a pebbly texture and his face has a truly brainless expression. Very small head in proportion to his body as well. I wish lego would make a piece that could be a skull cap to represent bald figures but that is not too important.

At any rate, what we have here is the bathroom, with one faucet, a sink that can spill over, harry, the troll, a pumpkin (though what one is doing in the bathroom I have no idea) and a tipping section that lets brown blocks fall. The set replaces the sorting hat set underneath the final challenge if you were to assemble everything lego has put out so far so that is why they made it so small. My sister really loves the sink. Either way, we'll be seeing more bathroom sets when Moaning Myrtle shows up. :)

The price fits even though the set is small because the detail on our mountainous friend is worth it even if the troll's legs are stationary. By the way, this is one of the first 2002 series sets so snap it up for your favourite valentine. . .what other gift says "i care" like a troll lego set? Oops, I'm the only one that would want legos from a valentine. :) For those of us with minimal finances, check out the remembrall set with harry and malfoy on brooms even though I'm still waiting for a neville minifig.

5.0 out of 5 stars Troll on the loose--71 pcs--#4712, March 16, 2002
Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This set may seem small, but the Troll isn't! The coolest thing about the set is the figure of the troll. It is blue with a very ugly-mean detailed face, and his brown clothes. This set also includes a Harry Potter figure like all the other sets in the Lego line. The set itself is the girls bathroom. However it does not have one toilet, only a sink, that kind of looks like a toilet. And another interesting aspect is the Jack-o-lantern pumpkin on top of this set. It doesn't make sense in the bathroom, but the day on which the troll attacked, was Halloween! It is a very nice set. The sink can fall, and some brown lego blocks can fall from the top to clobber the troll. One negative thing about the troll figure: only one arm moves(the one that holds its club) Not even the legs move! Still for the price, you can't beat that! It is a great set.

I recently bought this for my nephew's 6th birthday. He was real enthusiastic, and completed it by that night. (Legos are his thing).

The instructions were clear, he only needed a minimum of adult assistance, mostly with finding the specialized small pieces to match the instruction pictures.
----****----
He said I should tell you all "It's a really cool set if you like Harry Potter".

As always with Legos, the great thing is that he'll get lots of play time with it as he'll be mixing and matching it with all his other sets to create unique designs.
----
Definitely worth the relatively low price, and Ben got a great thrill out of the Troll monster's "underpants"
(What will they think of next?)

5.0 out of 5 stars A great toy!, September 2, 2002
A Kid's Review
Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
If you want to recreate the bathroom scene, this is the playset for you. Well, almost. It doesn't include Ron or Hermione, which I think is a dumb choice. The set is really cool, and my favorite thing is the mountain troll. I love how you can make bricks fall on his head. The sink looks more like a toilet, which doesn't take away from the set at all. Buy this. You'll love it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good yes...very good..., December 16, 2002

Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this set about a week ago mainly for the troll that comes with it.It is a fun set, although the stones that fall are a bit corny.Another flaw with this set is that there is no Ron or Hermione.I mean, Hermione was the reason that Ron & Harry went to that bathroom in the first place because tha troll was heading there. And almost every set in the Lego HP series has Harry, so why no Ron or Hermione?
But the troll has multiple uses.I mean that you can use him in the castle theme as well as the HP theme.Or if you are a Lord of the Rings and Lego fanatic like myself you could use him as a cave troll from the Moria scenes.Or you could use his head for an orc.
But overall, apart from the troll, there is nothing special about this set except the cool pumpkin lantern that is on the ceiling.
Very good.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very decent re-creation of an exciting scene., April 6, 2002
By Wesley Young (Norman, OK USA) - See all my reviews
Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars Educational:2.0 out of 5 stars
Let me get straight to the point of a glaring omissiong from this set that seems to be the result of marketing tactics more than anything. The ENTIRE point of the Mountain Troll scene was Harry and Ron going to the rescue of Hermionie ... and, yet, neither she, nor Ron, are in this set! It's just Harry! Where is Ron? Over in the Castle, or the Snape's Classroom sets? And Hermionie is in the Castle set as well, or the Diagon Alley shops - a clear attempt to get you to buy more sets in order to have completeness.

Outside of that, and ignoring it, the set IS good ... decent details, good authentic touches ... the Troll figure is well-designed, and can even smash and knock-over the sink. He can even be hit over the hit with dropping bricks.

A fun, enjoyable set that kids (and collector's) will enjoy.
