This is so reasonable in price and provides so much fun for so long. We gave it to my son when he was one year. He is two and still uses it every day. He can't do the pedals yet but he goes around the block on this propelling himself with his feet. Its extremely sturdy and balanced and is not prone to tipping. In fact, he has only fallen a couple times and that was when he got on or off and just didn't swing his leg over it far enough. Yep, there are more expensive nicer looking trikes, but this is fun and relatively safe even before they can pedal. And my son still has fun to come on this one once he learns to pedal! Update: My son used this trike until he turned 6!

Last year's model had some flaws...., May 24, 2003

I purchased the previous version of the Rock, Roll & Ride for my eldest son when he was two. The idea is great -- anyone with at least one kid knows that multitasking toys are a wonderful idea. However, as a tricycle, this does have a few flaws. The biggest flaw we found is with the plastic "tires." They look cute, but are really slippery, so they don't grip the ground well. My son had a really hard time learning to pedal because he'd get the movements right, but the trike wouldn't go anywhere... he just literally spun his wheels. Then, my husband wrapped rubber bands around the tires to help them get some traction, and that helped Jake long enough to get the hang of it. Also, if you use this outside, the tires get pretty scraped up, so you might not want to bring it back indoors where it could scratch your floors. Another flaw was the short push handle, but according to the specs for this model they have lengthened the pushbar, which can only be good. I'm 5'6" and I thought it was too short for me before. Lastly, I think this item has a short life span for your child. Jake turned three years old at the end of January, and he's really outgrown it in terms of what the trike can do. The ride just isn't smooth enough to justify him using for real "bike riding." I've read a lot about trikes tipping, and if I think about it, this does tip, but not all that often, so that's a good feature. Finally, I guess this is a good recommendation as an indoor toy. For a longer-lasting outdoor toy, I'd try one of the Kettlers.

Great for Grandma's House as they will get years of use, June 17, 2004
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Fisher-Price Rock, Roll 'n Ride Trike XL (Toy)
We have three of these as each of my boys received one for their first birthday and I think they are great. The only problem is I wish they were all at the same house - two are by their Grandparents 3000 miles away while my three fight over the one we have at home. Makes we want to go buy one or two more. My six year old still loves to ride it even though he has moved onto a big boy bike because he can really zoom around the corners without getting nervous. The little foot rest doesn't do much but not a huge problem. Found that it worked best in the rocking mode when off the carpet. The handle is great as not only am I able to push them but they push each other. It really manuvers well. My almost 2 year old tries to pedal it but is not quite big enough so he just zooms around with foot power. All in all a great toy that after 5 years of constant use shows no signs of "decay" - how many toys can you say that about?

We've bought three, October 26, 2005
Durability: Fun: Educational:

We have three children, and a lot of neighbors with young kids. This toy is a universal favorite. Everyon has one. We've had to buy each of our three children their own. At about 13 months, they like to rock on it. Around 2, they want to be pushed or scoot with it (maybe a little before), and by 3, they are pedaling like lightning and it's their official "bike". We've owned two Big Wheel-type toys which eroded in the sun or broke easily. These are durable and will last you for years.

misunderstood toy; great when you follow the directions, July 17, 2004
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Fisher-Price Rock, Roll 'n Ride Trike XL (Toy)
It is funny to see one parent saying that her 1 year old's feet can't touch the "petals" (smirk) when the intended age is 18 months and up. Another funny thing is to see how many parents say the "parental" handle doesn't lock in place--I got news for you it does!! All you have to do is put the yellow pin which locks the handle in place in "rocker" mode behind the handle when it is in "parent" mode. Our two year old loves this and enjoys rocking, riding, and pushing the parent handle. He hasn't quite caught on using the pedals because his feet get in the way but hey, that's what two year olds do. :) I see this as a long term learning toy to help our son transition to a bike later on. It was a very smart purchase. Lots of stores have them to try out--go decide for yourself.

Hate this trike, September 1, 2005
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Fisher-Price Rock, Roll 'n Ride Trike XL (Toy)
The problem with a lot of multi-functional toys is that it does a lot of things, but none of them very well. I think this bike fits into this category perfectly. When used as a rocker, the rocking motion was awful - my son much preferred to use his Little Tykes police rocker. Then when we moved the bar to the back (for pushing), my son would just climb up onto it and had several nasty falls. So we took the back off and now it's just about useless. He's 20 months old and tall for his age, yet cannot reach the pedals even with the seat in the shortest position. But he can't propel it with his feet on the ground either as the back of his legs hit the back of the bike. Also, it tips a lot when he's trying to get on and off.
I'm a huge fan of Fisher Price toys, but think this one is awful. We'll be buying him a proper trike this year for christmas and ditching this one soon after. Also, my friend's 3-year old, a proficient peddlar, gave up on riding this trike as the plastic wheels keep slipping on both concrete and grass.

This Trike has worked well for us, September 14, 2006
This review is from: Fisher-Price Rock, Roll 'n Ride Trike XL (Toy)
We received this as a Christmas present for my son when he was 15 months old. He rocked on it all the time, and when he was 24 months old we let him ride it outside and I pushed from behind using the handle. He did not keep his feet on the foot rests as I pushed, so I ended up running his feet over a few times and I had to stop several times to prevent this from happening again. But eventually he learned to use his feet to propel the trike forward and we removed the handle, although he liked the handle on so he could climb up on the seat and do silly stunts. He finally started using the pedals around 30 months, before then he preferred to keep his feet on the ground. A neighbor gave us a different trike that we kept at the grandparents, that thing tipped over at the slightest swerving motion. Compared to other brands we have tried, this one does not tip over as easily, though it does tip occasionally when he gets too wild. He has traveled many thousands of miles on this trike and the only downfall was that recently he learned to use his front tire as a brake which has started to wear out from the constant skidding to a halt. We explained that he has to use his feet to brake and now that's what he mostly does. He is four years old now and he still fits the trike and prefers it to his "big boy" bike with training wheels. We are planning to buy one for our daughter this Christmas.

grows with your child. Worth every penny., November 25, 2005
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Fisher-Price Rock, Roll 'n Ride Trike XL (Toy)
I purchased this toy for my son when he was one. He is now 5 and still is able to ride it, along with my 3 yr old daughter. There are so many toys out there with such a short life span I feel you really get your money's worth. I also like the adjustable seat as my daughter is tiny. My one yr old also tries to ride. I have never had this tip and my son is quite rough with it. I have given this gift multiple times to friends and always receive rave reviews. Although I was disappointed that a "light and sound" version came out. I would save your money and buy the original, as the noises can be distracting when riding...and too many things have sound these days.

Great tricyle for little ones, October 21, 2006
This review is from: Fisher-Price Rock, Roll 'n Ride Trike XL (Toy)
I bought this for my dd when she was 14 months and we used it first as a rocking bike, then around 20 months started riding it with me pushing her. She started pedaling about 21/2 so I took the handle off and now at almost 5 she still rides it with the seat pushed all the way back. My second child is 14 months and it is still in great condition for her to play with it - I will soon put the handle back on. Unlike many other tricycles and big wheels a small child can reach the pedals easily on this. The reason I did not give it 5 stars was because the wheels are very slick so there is a traction problem sometimes. Also it took quite a while and an electric drill for me to put it together. Overall, however, I would highly recommend it.
