This Pioneer magazine cd changer is the last of great home electronics products. The design is sleek and the sound is amazing. This player is a newer version of a Pioneer CD changer I have had since 1991. That original model was fantastic and lasted pretty much until 2008-- except for the fact that it did not play burned audio (not mp3, but audio) CDs.

I bought the new model thinking that that would certainly have been updated, but to my disappointment it was not. When I called...

This Pioneer magazine cd changer is the last of great home electronics products. The design is sleek and the sound is amazing. They focus on the fact that this is a cd changer and tried not to do more than what they should have. The fact that it is a magazine and not a carousel keeps my cd's from being scrached or spinning freely making that horrible griding sound like in other cd changers. I would recommend this to anybody that wants a great and fun design, with great quality sound!

I just bought this from Amazon recently. I had an older model of this CD player back in the early to mid 1990s. I went thru two Pioneer 25-disc CD players. (Both stopped working after 2 1/2 years.) I went to a Yamaha 5-disc carousel player, which I never really cared for. I was so excited when I found this Pioneer CD player on Amazon because I had been looking for this type of CD player. It is a very easy CD player to use. I like that I can keep my CDs in the magazines and not have to re-load the magazines each and everytime. (I just need to buy a bunch of magazines tho since I gave my old ones away a long time ago.).

When I called Pioneer, they said that this new model was designed in 1997, which explains why it does not play burned CDs. According to that representative, there are no Pioneer models newer than this.

If this is anything like its predecessor, it's probably a very good player, except for this major drawback, which is why I feel that it really can't get more than two stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Quality, February 23, 2006
This review is from: Pioneer PD-M426 6-Disc Magazine CD Player (Electronics)
This the second Pioneer Disc Magazine Changer we've owned. The first one was used continuously and must have lasted us about ten years. I'm sure our new one will give us similiar service. The sound quality is as good as anyone should expect and it's depenability and simplicity of operation all add up to excellent quality.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pathetic., January 8, 2009

Since 1989 I've put many thousands of hours of play time on a Pioneer Elite PD-M910 6-Disc Magazine CD player. The unit is a true workhorse. Alas, it is now beginning to show its age. I looked around for a replacement and headed straight back to Pioneer. Big mistake. The PD-M426 is now Pioneer's only 6-pack player, and it's anything but Elite. Everything about it shouts cheapness. It does not offer TOS-link digital output, only RCA jacks. It does not come with a Single-Disc magazine, only the 6-pack, which makes playing a single disc very inconvenient. Programability is all but completely lacking. The 910 had these features 20 years ago. Where have they gone?

The unit I received suffered the same defect as many others reviewed here. Something immediately began to go wrong with the laser pickup. It couldn't seem to "see" the first two or three tracks of brand new commercial CDs and output distortion, static and helicopter noises instead of music. It couldn't play CD-R discs at all, though the old PD-M910 plays them just fine. Lucky for me this all developed during Vann's post-delivery trial period. The good folks there cheerfully sent me a return shipping label, took the unit back, and refunded all of my money. They would like to send me another PD-M426, but that's not happening. Seems they can no longer get that model from Pioneer. I just told my local repair shop I will do almost anything to keep the old unit "alive." They tell me all it needs is a simple clean and lube job and it's good to go.

Sad to say, Pioneer was once the industry leader for all forms of disc players. Now they have little to offer. I guess this is just another indication that the era of the Compact Disc really is coming to an end.

5.0 out of 5 stars So far, so good, August 23, 2006
This review is from: Pioneer PD-M426 6-Disc Magazine CD Player (Electronics)
This is the second Pioneer Magazine CD Changer I have owned. I think they are great. The only complaint I would have is the difficulty of getting it serviced.

I had to replace mine because of the service issue. I figured it would be cheaper and less hassle to buy a new one than to try to get the old one fixed.

It operates well, takes up little space, and fits my needs quite well.

Easy to set up, and all the advertised features appear to work fine. I bought this because I owned an earlier Pioneer model which also used the 6-CD cartridge, but that model finally wore out after many years of good service. I was relieved to see that this model accepts the same cartridges. The control panel is streamlined and simpler, but suffers no loss of the functionality I expect. Sound clarity transfer is great. Well recommended.

I only wanted a cd player for my home component system, as I already have a cd/dvd player with a built in video tape player. This Pioneer fits the bill! It is easy to use, with a simple plug in and go. It plays the cds one right after the other and has dozens of other features that I will probably never use.-like programable random sampling etc.

The only down that I could find with this player is that the cds have to be loaded in the tray upside down-meaning that the label side goes toward the floor with the music side facing the sky. Every other player I have ever owned has been the opposite way. When I first received the player, hooked it up and tried playing the cds-I got error codes. I then panicked figuring the player was defective, but being female-I then READ the owners manual and found that the cds were incerted incorrectly by me. After correcting my error, this system has been flawless.

This is the second such changer I have owned. This is better than the last in that the individual CDs are more accessible in the magazine, making it easier to change them. It works very well.
