WHAT I THINK
THE GRINDER WORKS VERY GOOD. I AM IMPRESSED WITH HOW FAST I CAN SHARPEN A CHAIN. IT TOOK A LITTLE THINKING AND COMMON SENSE TO FIGURE IT OUT, THE INSTRUCTION ARE USELESS. THE ONLY THING I DONT LIKE ABOUT THIS GRINDER IS IT DOESNT HAVE A BLADE LOK, SO YOU CAN HOLD THE SHAFT AND CHANGE THE BLADE. YOU HAVE TO TAKE ALL THE SAFTY SHEILDS OFF AND HOLD THE SHAFT WITH A PAIR OF...

Oregon 511AX saw chain bench grinder
Well built unit, however overlly complicated. Instructions are terrible. If you use any chain other than the "oregon" brand you will need to either call the manufacture or chainsaw dealer for angle settings. If you know a commercial timber faller better yet.

YOU HAVE TO TAKE ALL THE SAFTY SHEILDS OFF AND HOLD THE SHAFT WITH A PAIR OF PLIERS. IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU NEED THE SAME BLADE ALL THE TIME, BUT I HAVE 2 HUSKY SAWS AND THEY ARE DIFFERENT SIZE. OVER ALL THIS IS WELL WORTH THE PRICE. I SPENT TWICE THIS AMOUNT IN THE PAST 5 YEARS HAVING THEM SHARPENED AT A LOCAL LAWNMOWER SHOP.

Ordered a 511AX but was sent a 511A. Couldn't return because had people waiting for chains, that is why i ordered it when i did. Just got ripped off.

Very Good Sharpener, December 7, 2009

Item is worth the money and shipping was quick. The directions are a bit funky but do suffice.
I sharpen a bunch of cutters then switch to the flat stone for sharpening the rakers.I have sharpened about 25 chains so far and am pleased with the power this machine puts out. I had a cheapo one that was way under powered and did not work well.
My only complaint is that the vise handle interfers with the view of the alignment notch on the chain angle guide, thats why I gave it a four.

I upgraded from the "mini Jolly" to this unit, only surprise was that this one is also made from same Italian company-don't know what the Italians have re: chain saw sharpeners, but this unit really has the power needed to quickly sharpen the chains for my Stihl and Husky saws, and the light built in really helps me see what I'm doing. The mini model was way under powered.

This sharpnener will sharpen any chainsaw chain. Easy to use and lots of power.
I don't know why I didn't buy it sooner.

Oregon 511AX Problems, October 10, 2009

Purchased a Oregon 511AX Chain Grinder recently. Sharpened about 10 chains and the chain vice broke in half. No excessive force used. Part numbers are obsolete. Must be a manufacturing default but I don't know what to do.

I ordered the Oregon 511AX on Amazon.com and it was through Northern Tool. They sent me their remaining stock of the older model 511A. I called and they said that is the number in which Amazon had sent them. So I called Amazon and they told me I needed to get in touch with Northern Tool. I sent it back and got one else where.

The sharpener is great the instructions are different than one would expect from an American company.
Over all a quality item with one exception, the clear plastic guard.
Recommend highly if you like your chains as accurate as can be done at home.

Great deal, have used the item and it works outstanding! Amazon was the best bang for the buck by far. Once I made a stand to put it on all went well. Will save $7.00 for each chain I sharpen myself. Will hang out a sign soon after I sharpen a few more as practice.
