5.0 out of 5 stars Love all 4!
My daughter is now 9 1/2 months old, and has been watching these 4 DVD's for the past 4 months or so. She absolutely loves them! They keep her totally captivated. There are times that she gets so preoccupied that I can not get her to drink her bottle, but as soon as I put one of these DVDs on, she'll calm down and drink her bottle while watching the entire video. 5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, May 7, 2004
By A Customer
I have read scathing reviews on how Baby Einstein is a rip-off, and that it is a waste of money to buy these videos. I have found while babysitting that every child I watch from 3 months to 4 years finds something of interest in the videos and cds. It has also been written that these are bad for children because they just sit and stare at them, when clearly if these parents had watched the entire video and listened to the explanation at the end of the movie telling them that these videos were meant to be used for interaction WITH their children not as substitute entertainment and education. And while these videos are entertaining to small children, they do get a little monotonous for adults, but what child's toy doesn't begin to annoy you after about the tenth time you hear it's song or read the same silly story that your child loves so much because you do the same silly voices while you read it that you've done the last twenty times you read it for them. These videos and cds also have wonderful soft music and sounds fit for babies' sensitive hearing and is very soothing to not only them but you. Studies show that children exposed to different kinds of music, especially classical, show a higher use of advanced brain waves than children that aren't. Studies also show that any positive interaction with your baby advances them socially and emotionally over children that are ignored. The Baby Einstein company also makes books and toys that can be used to advance your babies in other ways. So I feel that this company is exploring every avenue of development for small children. I may not have children of my own yet but all the babies I take care of love these videos and cds, and I intend to purchase them and use them WITH my own children someday.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous baby fun!, June 1, 2004

My 1 year old absolutely loves all of the Baby Einstein videos!! I don't know what I'd do without them. They are baby eye friendly and full of wonderful music, colours and educational information that your baby can process. I know it may look a little hokey but you have to think of it from your baby's point of view. They are simple images that their little eyes and brains can process easily without flipping back and forth constantly from image to image like kids cartoons on tv. I also love that they introduce other languages and music to my child. They say that the more a child hears other languages the easier it will be for them to learn different languages later on. My daughter is just in love with them and so am I!

5.0 out of 5 stars Got these as a gift and..., August 10, 2006
we (me, my husband and my daughter) all love them. She is 7 mos. old now, has been watching about 1 per day for 3 mos. It gives me time to make myself some toast and a cup of tea in the morning or me and my husband 20 min. to eat our dinner together and discuss our day. I know the instructions say to interact with your little one while they're watching so occasionally I'll verbalize the object, the color or describe what the children on the video are doing. I find that she is enthralled with the puppet shows on the bonus feature on the main menu...also like the multi-lingual option as they say its good for little ears to hear different languages, sounds etc. One suggestion I have is to first preview them from the local library. There are a few that I've gotten from there that she's just not that into! Now I know and it saved me a few bucks too! Overall, I would recommend these but would hesitate in giving them to someone who may use the "Repeat Play" option-if you catch my drift!

1.0 out of 5 stars Baby Homer Simpson? DVDs not for babies even if "Einstein" is in the name..., January 15, 2008
The name "Baby Einstein" can lull you into thinking it's okay or even good for babies to watch t.v., but the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no television at all to children under 2 because so many studies have proven its harmful effects on children. Studies have shown that:

- for every hour of television a baby watches a day, their chances of acquiring an attention deficit disorder increases by 10%.
- among babies ages 8 months to 16 months, every hour spent daily watching programs such as 'Brainy Baby' or 'Baby Einstein' translated into six to eight fewer words in their vocabularies as compared with other children their age."
- brain wave activity in babies is slower when watching television than when sleeping.

I believe television should be used SPARINGLY and with caution, and without any delusions of it increasing baby's intelligence. As for making them more intelligent, Dr. William Sears says, "relationships, not things, make babies smarter." The easiest way to make babies smarter and calmer is to carry them a lot. Slings, pouches and carriers help make this more manageable. Studies have shown that:

- carrying babies an extra 3 hours a day resulted in 40% less crying.

Babies who are frequently carried are proven to pick up verbal skills faster, and develop better core muscle strength and balance. My Listmania list "Natural Parenting for Baby's First Year" has more information on babywearing, or you can google "babywearing" or "television and baby studies" for your own research.

Crown Crafts The Original NoJo BabySling by Dr. Sears - Black Chambray is a great starter sling.

Finally, I'd suggest "SIGNING TIME" videos - not to be confused with "Baby Signing Time" - as a last resort instead of other baby videos because at least baby can learn sign language. Sign language is proven to:

- reduce frustration and tantrums
- accelerate language development
- promote parent-child bonding

I found the entire series at my local library. I especially liked Signing Time! Volume 4: Family, Feelings & Fun DVD and 'naming' feelings also increases emotional intelligence in babies.

This was a gift for a new grand nephew but I bought it because I already knew what a great product the Einstein DVDs were. My first introduction to them was with my grandson. I'm not a big believer in sitting your kid in front of the TV and leaving them to mindlessly watch anything that moves. These DVDs are not just entertainment....they are educational. The music is always appropriate to the scene, but it is also always very relaxing and soothing, giving the child a chance to hear different types of music. The scenes change frequently so that the baby's attention is captivated. And the pictures are not just animations...there are many, many real life scenes of animals, people, machines. The colors are vibrant so they catch the eye.

We bought everyone that came out and used them not as "baby sitters" but as learning tools. I sat with my grandson and we talked about what was on the screen, so they grew with us.

This set was a great bargain and made a wonderful gift item. It also had most of my favorites in it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not that interesting, October 8, 2009

The first dvd I played was BABY NEPTUNE(TM) DISCOVERING WATER. The quality of the real life images of water was very disappointing. It looks like cut and paste images from different tapes. The resolution also looks poor on our big HD TV.
Overall, I like the pure animation part better, and therefore, Numbers Nursery is more interesting to me.
The length of the dvd programs is kind of short for that price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Baby Entertainment!, January 22, 2009

It is hard to entertain an infant for very long, as their attention spans are short and so is their patience! My son LOVED to watch the Baby Einstein DVDs, even when we couldn't get him to watch any other TV or movies. We started him at 4 weeks, and he was immediately hooked! The scenes change quick enough that just as soon as they start to loose interest, something else comes on. The music is great, and they are full of color, animals, sounds and more! A must have!! (And, once your baby becomes a toddler... try the Little Einsteins! Our son counts backwards from '5' and he's two! (you'll know what I mean when you learn the theme song)

5.0 out of 5 stars These are a life saver!, December 29, 2008

I bought this video collection for my sister. I have the entire baby Einstein collection and I cannot live without it. It was the only way I was able to even get time to take a shower when my kids were infants. It is also a great teaching tool, my son (who is 3) loves to watch and repeat the words and signs that he sees on the videos. I also find them very entertaining, even from an adult perspective. It is really fantastic that it doesn't annoy the parents, entertains the kids, exposes them to fine art and music, and helps them learn. This is a must have for any parent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Baby Einstein DVDs are the best!, May 12, 2007
I have a 14 month old daughter who loves all the Baby Einstein DVDs. She watches them while she's playing with her toys and it seems to calm her down. Babies just love these DVDs, for whatever reason!
