5.0 out of 5 stars Great humidifier doesn't require filters
I used to buy more expensive humidifiers that required replacement filters that cost essentially as much as this humidifier. This one puts out a warm mist with no white dust. I rinse the water dish with vinegar once a week, wipe it down and it's clean. I have a two-story house with a furnace humidifier, but I still run two of these humidifiers on low 24/7 in winter. We...

We never have sore throats or colds. The money we save on cough drops and cold meds and doctor visits more than pays for these humidifiers.

I owned the larger version of this humidifier for 2 years and was pretty happy with it. While the amount of build up from our hard water made it annoying to clean up on a regular basis, the unit functioned well overall. It was simply designed, not an eyesore like some of the other ones on the market, and did a good job of adding humidity to the front half of our 1200 sqft apt.

When are unit died about a month ago, I went to buy it again and found this one as the closest thing. In the picture and description it just looked like a slightly updated version with slightly less capacity (the one that died was a 3 gallon version).

Unfortunately, when this unit arrived, I was extremely dissapointed to see that it was nowhere near the size of the other. THIS UNIT IS DEFINITELY NOT 2.5 GALLONS. It is much more likely around a gallon...probably one of the smallest humidifiers I've ever seen. It still works well and is designed nicely, but it means we are changing the tank (which is best described as cute) about every 6 hours.

I would recommend this humidifer for a small studio space or office where you are only using it when you are around. It is really not suitable for larger spaces.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really good humidifer, February 12, 2008
By Chris G. (Philadelphia, PA USA) - See all my reviews
This is quiet and well-designed humidifier. Although the plastic seems a bit cheap, the unit works very well. It is also easy to clean and no filters are needed. My only problem with this humifier is that the reservoir is a bit small. I'm not sure what the 2.5 gal refers to as this unit can't hold more than a gallon. However, a full tank lasts about 7 hours with the setting on high, which is sufficient for me.

2.0 out of 5 stars Misleading product description, March 15, 2008

This review is from: HONEYWELL ENVIRACAIRE HWM910 Warm Moisture 2 Gallon Humidifier (Kitchen)
The water capacity of this humidifier is 1 gallon, not the 2-gallons that might be expected from Honeywell's name: HWM910 Warm Moisture 2 Gallon Humidifier. If you read the fine print, it says that it will output up to 2 gallons of water per day. Of course, to get this output, one would have to fill it up twice. Someone at Honeywell needs to fired or indicted for misleading the public and soiling Honeywell's brand name.

I originally got this for my son when he would get coughs since no over the counter medicines helped very much. I doubted that it would help his coughs since I had no experiences with humidifiers, but it helped a lot while he slept. It has helped my daughter for coughs due to colds too. My daughter also has non-allergic rhinitis which is just like allergies, but the immune system is not involved so she doesn't actually produce histamines to cause her symptoms. This is good and bad because medicines do little or nothing to help with her congestion, runny nose, and coughing due to congestion at night. Apparently one cause of non-allergic rhinitis is lack of humidity which makes nasal passages swell up in some people. I used to think she had allergies or a perpetual cold, but her symptoms start around 7-8 at night and last till about 10-11 in the morning. She is fine for a few hours during the day. This humidifier is used for colds, and for my daughter's condition. My daughter can breathe and she hardly coughs anymore since she was diagnosed a few months ago. I like that there are no filters for this humidifier and it has kept working for so long with fairly easy maintenance. I soak the heating unit in the tray with a little vinegar water every 1-2 weeks to clean the heating unit and the tray at the same time. I used to only clean the tray this way, but I wanted to see if it would work for the heating unit and so far it has worked. I also rub off and rinse the hard water residue after I dump out the vinegar and water.I fill the water tank with water and put a small amount of bleach in as recommended in the instructions. The unit hasn't leaked since the gasket is strong and it the lid screws on tight. The tank is easy to fill and carry from the bathtub spout.Make sure the unit clicks into the base properly and you push the start button because it won't turn on otherwise. I have made the mistake of not having the unit clicked into the base the right way and a couple of hours later I found that it didn't turn on. This is a safety measure and I am glad to have it. I run it for about 8 hours a night on low. I hooked it up to a timer so it shuts off on it's own. I only wish it didn't get so hot hear in Southern CA so I could use it during the summer when it gets over 100 degrees F. I need to get a cool mist humidifier, but I dread the maintenance and/or filters.

3.0 out of 5 stars only last for one winter, December 7, 2007
This review is from: HONEYWELL ENVIRACAIRE HWM910 Warm Moisture 2 Gallon Humidifier (Kitchen)
It was fine at the beginning, but then you need to clean up the residue in a weekly basis, which is kinda time consuming. I was glad that I had it last winter and it worked great. This season, I used it a few times and it worked fine, but it suddenly stopped working.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Humidifier, small rooms only, February 28, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have am slightly more sensitive to humidity than most people. I have allergies to dust, mold, perfumes, and cleaners (such as bleach). I monitor humidity year round, if it goes below around 42% for more than a few days I can get a sore throat that leaves me unable to eat anything but liquids and barely able to talk for 1-4 weeks.

I am unable to use any humidifier that has a "filter". I personally detest company that even calls those humidifiers. They should be called mold generators. Any humidifier that is difficult to clean and that can not have most parts be in the dishwasher is not going to be my friend either.

I can only use warm mist or "ultrasonic" humidifiers.

PRO:
* Uses heating element to humidify, creating warm air
+ No filter
+ warm air is perfect for winter time
* Easy to clean
+ Every part can be removed and put in the dishwasher
+ INCLUDING the bottom tray.
(I've never seen another humidifier do that EVER, if you have PLEASE post a comment & let me know)
Many humidifiers say they are easy to clean, this is the only one I've found that really is. The only part that doesn't effectively clean in the dishwasher is the water container and you cant put the heating element in the dishwasher.
I clean my humidifier once a week at least.
* Inexpensive for what you get
* Better reviews than most
EX: Another popular humidifier has caused house fires. I saw no reviews like that for this.
* Auto-shutoff works
It turns off when there is no more water

CONS:
* Only works for a small room
- Seriously a VERY small room. I put it in my 150 square foot living room that has a few hallways and it didnt change the humidity at ALL. Not one percent.
- I it works "ok" in my bedroom if I run it on high at least a few hours before I go to bed.
* No air direction
- All the mist goes "up"
- This is common for warm mist, but kind of inconvenient. I use a small fan to direct the mist.
* It is warm mist
Like all warm mist humidifiers, you cant use it in the summer.

If anyone in the company sees my review... PLEASE PLEASE make a ultrasonic version of this with more capacity, remains easy to clean, and that can be directed. I need something for the SUMMER!

Again if anyone else knows of a humidifier that meets those standards, please leave me a comment! Thanks!

4.0 out of 5 stars Worked very well for 2 years, December 21, 2008
My wife and I bought this humidifier 2 years ago. We noticed our throats were getting dry in winter at night. We noticed an immediate difference. Whenever we forgot to turn it on, we noticed sore throats the next day. I truly believe this kept us from getting sick on more than one occasion.

It holds less water than the Amazon description would lead you to expect. It will run about 7 hours on high and 12 on low. It is enough for one large, open room but not a house. We switched it back and forth from our room to our daughter's. The steam would only be able to hurt her if she held her face right on the vent for a few seconds. I did notice this model got very hot underneath, but it never seemed to damage the floor.

Sadly just yesterday it stopped working after a little more than two years. I took it apart, and it doesn't look like something I can fix. But still, you know it's not a piece of junk. It will last you a few years, and it's not that expensive. I am looking for a larger version of the same thing by the same company so we don't have to change the water twice a day.

4.0 out of 5 stars very good humidfier--but they didn't clear up the issue of why you don't get 2 1/2 gallons..., February 24, 2009

Honeywell makes a very good "2.5-gal. warm moisture humidifier." Lately the winter weather has been so harsh--and my heat indoors so dry--that my skin has started "shedding!" The reddish, raw skin on my hands and forehead in particular didn't get better so I decided to try this humidifier. A buddy of mine told me to get the warm mist type of humidifier; and wow, am I glad I did!

Setup is easy. They ship it rather securely (which accounts for that high ship charge as of the time I am writing this) and the instructions come inside the box. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. Essentially, the instructions tell you how to clean the water tank and the reservoir before its first use. Then fill the tank up with cool water--NOT warm--and after you press the start button downward vapor should start to come out from the top vent within five minutes. You can choose to have either a high strength mist or a low strength mist. In addition, if you ever want to wash the plastic reservoir in the dishwasher, only use a cold water cycle--a hot cycle in the dishwasher could damage the plastic water reservoir.

The vapor shoots straight upward which was a relief for me; I was concerned that the vapor would stain my furniture or flooring. Just put this on a firm, solid surface (like an inexpensive plastic table) and it works reliably. I wouldn't put it on the floor. In addition, I tried to see if there were any problems opening the medicine cup and there weren't--that is also easy to use. I don't need medicine now; but if I did the medicine cup is an excellent bonus feature that not all the warm mist humidifiers have in this price range.

Now for the big issue that has caused some people to understandably complain--Honeywell claims that this is a "2.5 gallon warm moisture humidifier." However, the water tank clearly holds nothing much more than a gallon. I can only guess that the 2.5 gallons might be the amount of mist or moisture that comes out of the machine as it goes through a full cycle. This is very confusing and I will take off 1 star for this because Honeywell simply doesn't clarify this issue.

Despite the confusion regarding how much water or moisture this machine give handle, I still highly recommend this machine. As warm moisture humidifiers with a medicine cup go this is really rather affordable and you can't beat it for the work that it does. Take good care of it by cleaning it roughly once a week and it should work fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars The quest has an end...., February 7, 2009
By C. Mayr (Greenville, SC USA) - See all my reviews

After I complained about all the humidifier I was dissatisfied with, I now want to encourage everyone to buy this product here. I was looking for a humidifier that makes it easier to stand the dry winter air in SC, so I bought a Kaz product first, and I was very disappointed. And then I came across this Honeywell humidifier and I've used it for about a week now.

First of all: The two different setting work very well. Both setting produce pleasant warm mist. The water tank is big enough to last all night. On the high setting, it will run about 10 hours, on the low setting, it runs even longer.... The humidity in my bedroom rose from 28% to 38% over night. Plus it's completely (!) silent. I'm absolutely satisfied with this product and I'm so glad I finally found a humidifier that works the way it's supposed to.

The only thing that could put some people off is that this product doesn't look to technical. There is one knob to choose the setting and a switch to turn the whole thing on. It's not as pretty as other products I tried, but quite frankly: who cares?

I can completely recommend this product to everyone!
