5.0 out of 5 stars Reporter helps catch thieves!
On our 60 acres, thieves had broken into our new home under construction, stealing $19,000 worth of equipment, tools and supplies. After installing the Reporter, a problem arose, every time deer moved about, the alarm would sound and my husband would have to go check it. 2.0 out of 5 stars Worked off and on for a year
And then of course, the month after the Warranty was over, it quit completely. I took it apart and found a lot of moisture, the batteries were corrided, and cannot get it to work. I cleaned it up, let it set in the house to dry per the instructions and changed batteries. Now the wiring seems to be messed up. I emailed the manufacturer to see if I could buy replacement...

On our 60 acres, thieves had broken into our new home under construction, stealing $19,000 worth of equipment, tools and supplies. After installing the Reporter, a problem arose, every time deer moved about, the alarm would sound and my husband would have to go check it. After many false alarms much to our surprise, one late night, instead of the 4-legged kind of deer, it turned out to be a couple of 2-legged "dears" back again to steal more. We held them at gunpoint until the police arrived and hauled them off to jail for trespassing, burglary and grand theft. We don't care about the times the deer make the alarm go off because we finally caught the thieves. The Reporter lets us know any movement on the driveway coming and going. We are grateful for this little device which has helped us stop the robberies. We're still checking every time the alarm sounds.

Nice little notification unit. Placed at end of long drive, and before anyone can get past that point, I am notified. Well worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well!, August 10, 2006

Device works well and relatively easy to set up. Lost a star only because the alarm sound is so crude - it's a simple (but loud) buzzer and there is no volume control!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's workin 100% again - 2nd Update from "Dan on the farm", January 14, 2005
By DK on the farm "Dan" (Central Illinois) - See all my reviews
THis is a second review and an update to my previous review written By "Dan on the Farm" in Oct 04.

About 48 hrs after I had the intial problems of it being intermitent, it started working again and has been about 99% effective since then. The only times that it misses a few alerts is on a REALLY foggy, damp, misty condition. Almost like it can't transmit through the pea soup. But other than that, it works great. It just had that 24 hr period in October when it became unreliable.

Today is 14 Jan, 05 and the temp here is -1 F. Works great even in these low temps. Had it about 6 months now and am very pleased. Again, our radio shack in central Illinois has it for around $75. Good luck and email if you have questions: 60745@myswa.com

4.0 out of 5 stars Worked Great, then got intermittent, October 19, 2004
By DK on the Farm (Tremont, IL) - See all my reviews
Got this unit from "catchacall.com" online. Paid a whole lot more, about $100. Man, I loved it at first. Work 100% of the time. We live in the country and I have it on a long lane. About 800-1000' from sensor to reciever. I was skeptical, but it worked awesome in Aug and Sept. This is mostly a line of sight install. Sensor about 3.5 feet off the ground. Reciever sits almost 9 feet in the air on top of our kitchen cabinets so I could get the reciever antenna as high as possible. Like I said, it was 100% for Aug and Sept, but now it's Oct and temps are cooling to the 40's in Central Illinois. This week (mid Oct) it became intermittent. New battery did not help. Not sure what's wrong. I'm sending it back to the manufacture for repair/replace. I love it if it worked like it did in the warm months?? I hope it can continue to work well. I must add that when I got this item and opened the box, it LOOKED very cheap and flimsy. ALso, the instruction manual was a photo copy?? I handle the unit very tenderly since it looks like the reciever could fall apart in my hands! Maybe it did? Who knows? - DK, Tremont, IL (outside of Peoria, IL) email if you have questions: 60745@myswa.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great!, March 15, 2006

I highly recommend "the reporter". I'm using it for my driveway- the motion sensor is set up about 200ft from the house and the signal has to travel through 150ft of woods, through a six inch exterior wall, and an interior wall with no reception problems. I have had zero false alarms from small animals and there are lots of them here in the woods. I haven't had any false alarms from cb interference even though my house is close to a highway. The external relay contacts could be used to turn on a light or to trigger some other device like an existing alarm system. It's made well and easy to set up.

This works well with one motion detector. I would like to add 2 more and see if it still performs well. The range of motion detected could be a little better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked Wonderfully! Well worth the money, November 11, 2004
I have been using the Reporter now for over a year and it works just as promised. We were a bit skeptical at first, judging by the picture and the descriptions, but sure enough it worked just as advertised. We have a long, windy driveway with lots of interference in terms of trees, bushes, and a large barn. The Reporter works flawlessly, in spite of the surroundings!

Works perfectly. We had a thief that kept stealing items from our cars and garage. Bought this and one additional sensor. Put one outside near our gate and one in the garage pointing down over the door so it couldn't be seen by someone opening the door. Took the base station upstairs and had it on when we went to bed each night . . . we were awakened at 5 am by a single beep from the first sensor, got to the window in time to see the thief enter our garage and heard the double beep of the second sensor. He was a little surprised to walk out of the garage and be confronted by myself and my son with baseball bats . . . held him until the police arrived (took only 3 minutes!)

Signal went through 5 walls for one sensor and 3 for the other and had no problem. The beep is a little loud, but we just wrapped it in a towel to muffle it. Easy to use, works just like description, and cheap. Highly recommended.
