More of a shape-sorter than a kitchen
My daughter has had this toy for over a year and has shown little interest in it. The fridge is a shape sorter and she likes that part. Otherwise, she could do without it and she loves kitchen sets.
The fridge door comes off easily and does not close properly, which frustrates my 2.5 yr old.
It goes off at random. Many times this toy woke us up...

This review is from: Little Tikes Discover Sounds Kitchen (Toy)
After reading several negative reviews on this toy I thought I'd include in mine the biggest possible reason these children/parents are not enjoying it == the appropriate age to really appreciate and use this toy properly is 2+ since at this age kids can understand the concepts behind a kitchen. Our daughter has always been facinated with pots, food, kitchen sounds, etc., and this adorable little version is just perfect for her as she learns what sounds and sights you find at home. It is less than 2 ft. high, so kids have to bend down to play, or just sit down in front, which is not a problem for most kids once they get really involved in playing. The make believe milk, cheese and egg are cute and they have their storage places inside the fridge and cabinet. There is even a separately sold 4-pack of items including a pan, pepper shaker, cordless phone and measuring spoons. One criticism is that there is no place to hang the measuring spoons or cordless phone, so they disappeared rather quickly, but Little Tikes sent us a full replacement pack FREE OF CHARGE within two weeks.
My daughter adores the sounds this kitchen makes: bubbling, popping, and ringing for the stove, microwave and frying pan. It will tip over if your kids lean on it, but with supervised playtime, this is a great little item which stores neatly and quickly, and should keep them happy long enough for you to at least tidy up in your own REAL kitchen.

Nice Kitchen if Space is an Issue, January 28, 2005
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Little Tikes Discover Sounds Kitchen (Toy)
My daughter has had this kitchen set for a few months now. She's almost two and plays with it more now that she's older and into pretend play and imitating mommy. She really likes the full sized play kitchens, but we don't have space for that so she makes due with this set for now. I'm not sure how long it's going to last though because there isn't any room for additional play food and accessories. Hopefully we'll get a year out of it before needing to upgrade. If you're seaching for an activity toy and are unsure what to get, I would recommend the Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Home over the Discovery Sounds Kitchen. It's an extra $30 but it's bigger, has lots more activities and appeals to a wider age group.

It's been fun, but I wouldn't buy it again, February 28, 2006

This review is from: Little Tikes Discover Sounds Kitchen (Toy)
My son and daughter had a blast with this toy when they first got it a little over a year ago (he was about 25 months old, she was about 14 months old). They especially loved fitting the shaped pieces into the matching shaped hole. The sounds were fun for them (and they weren't so loud that they grated on my nerves). I like to rotate toys so they don't get bored with any one thing. This kitchen is small enough that it fits right on the top shelf of the playroom closet with plenty of room to spare. When I take it out the kids still have fun with it.
However, the door of the refrigerator CONSTANTLY comes off. This has been a problem since we first opened the toy from its original packaging. I saw that other reviewers had the same problem. It frustrated my kids, especially my son, to no end. I ended up removing it myself and hiding the door in hopes that they'd forget about it, which they did...but then they didn't have the shaped holes to put the matching toys into, which was one of their favorite parts of the kitchen.

Lots of fun, November 29, 2005
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Little Tikes Discover Sounds Kitchen (Toy)
My daughter (& my son) has lots of fun with this kitchen. She got it at about 8 months & still plays with it every day almost a year later. We also bought an accessory set that has a pan, salt shaker, & utensils. She doesn't always cook with it, but she has lots of fun stuffing things into the microwave, oven, & refrigerator. The door comes off fairly easily, but just snaps back in, so I don't think it's a big deal. We're very happy with it.

Great value!, November 28, 2005
Durability: Fun: Educational:

My girls love this kitchen, we've had it for over 6 months now (since they turned 1) and they both love to play with it. They love to open the doors and find the food items and the sounds are cool. The new low price makes it a really good deal. I bought two more as gifts. I recommend buying the accessory set (salt shaker, mirror pan and spatula/spoon).

Great for boys too, November 22, 2004

I got the last model of this for my boy (who was 9 mos at the time) and he has loved it. In fact, he's 2 1/2 now and still plays with it. I think every kid that has visited has loved it too.

More of a shape-sorter than a kitchen, February 18, 2006

This review is from: Little Tikes Discover Sounds Kitchen (Toy)
My daughter has had this toy for over a year and has shown little interest in it. The fridge is a shape sorter and she likes that part. Otherwise, she could do without it and she loves kitchen sets.
The fridge door comes off easily and does not close properly, which frustrates my 2.5 yr old.
It goes off at random. Many times this toy woke us up from downstairs. When we put it upstairs, I heard it going off over the monitor. There was nothing happening to set it off. Luckily it does have an "off" button.
The scale is a little strange. My daughter sits to play with it, instead of standing, like a child would with a regular kitchen set.
Overall, it's a good value but don't expect a child to play with it the way he would with a play fridge or play stove. It's really an oversized shape sorter. I recommend buying the companion accessory pieces (like the pots & pans) if you intend for your child to be able to play kitchen with this toy; it only comes with the fridge items (cheese, milk, egg) for the sorter.

Improved? Maybe a little..., November 6, 2004
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Little Tikes Discover Sounds Kitchen (Toy)
We had the older version of the Discover Sounds kitchen. When the refrigerator door broke, I exchanged it for this new version. I have to say that I prefer the old kitchen for these reasons: it was larger, the accessories were better (a pot and a pan, a spoon and a spatula, a phone-no change there, and some little shapes to sort.)
This new kitchen is smaller and it's difficult to get to the sink. The refrigerator doesn't have stickers on the inside, so it's a little more dull. It does have a tendency to tip over, just like the old one did, and my 1 year old's favorite thing to do is turn it on it's side and sit in it like a boat.
Because it is so small, I'm sure my daughter will outgrow it long before the recommended age of 36 months. There are other, better kitchens out there, I would not recommend this one.

Great for 1-year-old, but not for kids over 2 years, March 30, 2006
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Little Tikes Discover Sounds Kitchen (Toy)
I agree with the other reviewer that this is more like a shape sorter than a kitchen. My daughter loved it when she was 1. Now she's turned 2 and she's lost interest in it, like many other "baby toys". I had to get her a larger and more realistic toy kitchen so she can "cook" with it.

Good Toy for 1 year old, February 22, 2006
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Little Tikes Discover Sounds Kitchen (Toy)
We purchased the Discovers Sounds Kitchen for our daughter for her 1st birthday, and she really adores it. She is fascinated with the doors on the kitchen set, and she opens and closes them all the time. Our daughter also likes to place and remove all of the food items from the fridge and other compartments that come with the kitchen. Plus, it's fun for us to play with it with her. Overall, this product is fun, durable, and keeps our daughter's attention.
