5.0 out of 5 stars Durable and Clean
I have been using my Eheim 2213 for 19 years now, and have never had to replace any parts, until now. It is an incredible filter, that keeps everything in the tank clear and fresh. The only complaint I have has already been fixed. The double shutoff connections that they've added will make cleaning it so much easier. 19 years ago, they didn't have these, but I may buy...

I have been using my Eheim 2213 for 19 years now, and have never had to replace any parts, until now. It is an incredible filter, that keeps everything in the tank clear and fresh. The only complaint I have has already been fixed. The double shutoff connections that they've added will make cleaning it so much easier. 19 years ago, they didn't have these, but I may buy some extras. I've heard that the only downfall for Eheim is ordering replacement parts. The only thing needing replacement is the suction cups that hold the parts in place inside of the tank. Everything else is wonderful!

I would definitely recommend this to others. Especially with a good price for a canister filter.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent product, August 2, 2007
This review is from: Eheim Canister Filter Classic Plus - 2213 - up to 66 Gallon (Misc.)
Well-constructed filter that uses stainless steel clips to create a seal instead of plastic clips like every other filter manufacturer I've seen. I think the person below just had bad luck with the shipper to get the product broken on arrival.

I own several filters (Eheims, Fluvals, Penn Plax) and have found the Eheims to be the best - completely silent and well-constructed. The Pro Series is much easier to prime and perform maintenance on - and it's also more money. For the price, it's tough to beat this silent filter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally silent!, December 23, 2006

I love this filter! It keeps the water pristine and more importantly it is easy to assemble and clean thanks to the included double tap valves and media basket.

Silence was a key buying point for me as it was purchased for an aquarium in my bedroom. This filter is absolutely silent. So silent that I can now hear the hum of my fluorescent aquarium lights.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Filter, August 22, 2009
This review is from: Eheim Canister Filter Classic Plus - 2213 - up to 66 Gallon (Misc.)
This is a really nice filter. The instructions are a little vague but you can find a lot of instruction online. I was fortunate to have a friend who has one so I just asked him. It's almost silent, which is a nice change from the power filter I had before. I have it on a 42 gallon freshwater hex and it's keeping the watch crystal clear. I did have to cut the spray bar in order to get it to fit the side of my tank but I expected that since it's a hex.

When I first received it the media basket lid was broken. I emailed the seller, they told me to contact Eheim and they replaced the entire basket free of charge and it arrived in the mail within a couple days. I was very happy with the customer support. I'll definitely be buying Eheim products from now on.

5.0 out of 5 stars best filter for the money, April 13, 2010

The record February snow storm in Dallas cut power to the house and ended up killing our old, Eclipse 2 equipped, 30 gallon aquarium. The Eclipse 2 was ok, but the filter seemed to become full within 2-3 weeks.

We visited a local aquarium supply store, and the Eheim filters were very highly recommended. Unfortunately, the 2213 was priced about $50 more than I found it for on Amazon.

Our tank sits on a built in shelf in our TV room/den, and we were excited about moving the pump/filter to the shelf below the aquarium. It's a much quieter arrangement, as the pump/filter is concealed by books. Standing at the aquarium, there is a slight hum, but mostly what is heard is the water flowing through the tank pipes. With our 30 gallon aquarium, and a flow rate of 116 gph, the pump changes the water approximately 4 times per hour, keeping the water crystal clear.

As far a maintenance, it couldn't be easier. With the Elipse 2, there was a balancing act required to get the hood to the sink or tub without spilling any water. Now with the 2213, you shut the valves to and from the pump, unhook the quick connections, then you're able to take the pump to the sink, and change the filter media by releasing 4 quick-release tabs.

Even though the set-up instructions are not very detailed, I found the 2213 very easy to assemble and set up; I had the system operating about 30 minutes. If you have a stand aquarium or a shelf arrangement like ours, I think you will enjoy having a canister-type pump/filter, and I highly recommend the ease of operation and quality of Eheim products.

I'm very picky about clean water, so I choose a canister filter for my 29 gallon aquarium. The Eheim 2213 is excessive for my aquarium size, but my next purchase will be a 50 gallon tank.

I choose a canister filter because they are constructed like a filter in a water treatment plant. The multi-stage filtration system produces crystal clean water. This filter is almost silent when primed - the first week I checked to see if it was running several times. I have the filter sitting below the aquarium on the back of the stand and have never had a water leak. If assembled correctly, this should never be a problem. Using Vasoline when connecting the hoses eases installation considerably.

The direction were difficult to follow, but I entered `Eheim 2213' into (utube) and was able to quickly assemble the filter and tubing by following one of the video links. Once you understand how the filter should be assembled, within 20 minutes you should have the filter running in the aquarium.

If properly primed, the filter will work almost silently. Any noises from the filter should indicate a priming failure and should be corrected immediately. A pump not properly primed will burn will burn out in short order.

After three months with normal water changes, the water is still crystal clear. From now on, I will only purchase Eheim filters for my aquariums. It's money well spent in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars great product, June 1, 2010

This product is pretty good. Like everyone else, I found the directions a little hard to follow. I had to flip between the drawings on the German pages and the words in English and also reference the pictures in the box. One I decided to throw the directions away and use basic common sense, I pieced it together.

I was skeptical about the pump when I first turned it on. It didn't seem to flow that much water compared to the Fluval 305 I had before (which cracked the housing). But this filter worked just about perfectly. My water is as clear as the Fluval made it for about half the cost. And it is about a billion times better than the hang on the back filters. I had to use an old one for a couple weeks until I ordered this one and received it. It is well worth the money. The only improvement I would make is to improve the documentation and directions. As an engineer, I was able to figure out how this should work and got it installed in under an hour.

The initial filling is a little tricky. You kind of need to suck on the discharge hose (hopefully before putting it into the tank water) to start the siphon, then let gravity do the rest to fill it. Subsequent filter cleanings are easy. Just shut the two inlet and two outlet valves, unscrew the two valves and clean. Then reconnect the valves and open the outlet first, then inlet. The siphon will fill it fast.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money, July 18, 2010

I bought this based on my experience with the larger model, and was disappointed as soon as I opened the package. The instructions were less then helpful, the devise hard to install, and at the end when I thought it would all be worth it, a major piece failed (the plastic rotatable joint that feeds the filtered water back into the tank), leaving me to clean up a growing puddle of water, and reinstall my old filter. Overall, I would say, save a bit longer, buy the more expensive model and save yourself the aggravation and ultimate disappointment.
