It plays ....
When my beloved old guitar gave up the ghost (long story) I needed a guitar in a hurry, but had no money. This one had good reviews, so I gave it a try. I knew it wouldn't be anything amazing, but still expected, based on the reviews, something a bit better than I got.
It's very light, with a flimsy feel to it, enhanced by the matte finish ... it really DOES...

This is a nice beginner's guitar. The action is kind of high, so you will earn your calluses quickly. I bought mine from GearTree through Amazon, and it arrived quickly in great condition. However, consider buying directly from a vendor's website, because some offer free shipping when you buy directly. Then you can buy a decent case or a strap as well, and for the same price as shipping would have cost you. Also, get an inexpensive tuner as well - you will be playing the day it arrives!

This is my third guitar. They have all been entry level instruments, and it seems as fast as I buy them I give them to my children. This one I will keep. This is by far the best guitar of the previous two, and thinking back the least expensive. I cannot believe how well-made this instrument is, with close attention to detail. There were no short-cuts taken when assembling this guitar, those small details that usually distinguish entry level instuments. I would recommend this guitar to anyone.

Very good acoustic smooth sound, March 14, 2006

I have been using this guitar for about a year have posted pics also on amazon. I got it from geartree for 99.99 and I am glad that the guitar was so nice. Bass string and treble string 1-6 just sound so clear and seperated in this guitar. I'd suggest any beginner to go with this guitar. Even proffessionals can try too if they haven't tried it. worth

Smooth the the touch. Smooth to the ear.
Takamine's model designation for this is 'S35'. In my estimation, the 'S' must stand for 'solid', 'smooth', 'superb', 'special' or just plain 'sweet'.
This guitar seems to be perfect for a beginner or amateur/recreational player.
The construction and overall quality are very impressive. From the solid fit and finish to the easy to tune/maintain hardware - this guitar is top notch.
Looks-wise, the finish is darker than pictured and is matte not glossy. The finish will not show finger prints like a gloss-finished black bargain basement model. This is one good looking instrument that looks like it cost far more than it does. It features a warm, rich wood tone exterior.
The sound produced by the guitar is brilliant and warm. In terms of playing, the action doesn't seem to be too high as indicated in other reviews. I find this to be a very easy instrument to play and keep in tune.
This guitar will never be mistaken for a cheap guitar. Compared to other 'entry-level' offerings, this product is in a different class. This guitar has received several "wows" and more than one "beautiful" from friends and family.
Thanks to Takamine for producing a great product at an affordable price. It is encouraging to see that a true value can be had that allows just about anyone to put a quality musical instrument in their hands.
In shopping for guitars I checked out higher-priced models from all kinds of makers. To be sure, a higher-priced Takamine or Martin will impress your friends and make you the envy of your neighbors. But pound for pound, this is the best guitar that I have tried out.
If given the choice, I would purchase one again with no hesitation.

Best bang for buck and beyond, November 29, 2007

Bought my Jasmine S35 at a local music shop. I own a fine Larrivee acoustic as well as several other guitars. The action is adjustable, and I have set it just right - low action, no buzzing. The construction is remarkably flawless. It plays (action) very well, unlike the laborious and discouraging quality normally found in inexpensive instruments. Although it does not ring out like more expensive guitars with finer spruce tops, it has a unique tone for blues fingerpicking and a nice, even strumming sound too. It doesn't look cheap. this guitar is a steal at $100.

Great guitar!, July 11, 2005

I've had this guitar for about 2 years now, and it's absolutely fantastic. It's got an awesome sound, and it's a good size. It's great for a beginner, or someone that doesn't want to spend a whole bunch of money, but that wants a full sized guitar.
I didn't get mine from amazon, so mine was more than what they say it is on this site. That's a pretty good price people. My advice right now would be to buy this guitar on this site for a great price. This guitar is fantastic.

Great guitar after further investment to improve the action, February 6, 2009

I bought this guitar cold as a beginner based on all the positive reviews on Amazon and other sites. Many people at many levels said great things about it. The guitar is indeed quite impressive in quality and sound for the money you pay. I'm already attached to it, and I like its sweet, mellow tone and beautiful looks (the picture shown here, BTW, is inaccurate - mine has a much darker and lovely finish). However, a frequent complaint in the reviews is the high action on the guitar. For other beginners, this means the height of the strings from the fretboard. In the guitar I got the action was VERY high, and after a couple of weeks of learning chords, I started to realize that some of them (e.g. C, F) were almost physically impossible to play with such high action. I was getting seriously discouraged (an apparently common phenomenon with new guitarists, especially when they buy low-end guitars with super high action). Then I played some Martins in a shop and realized what low action felt like. Night and day. So, on my teacher's advice, I took my Jasmine to a repair shop to get it "set up". This process is apparently performed roughly once a year to keep acoustics in-tune, etc. I went to a high-end repair shop, so this cost me $85. Yup, as much as the guitar itself. And I now have a beautiful-sounding guitar with very playable action and thanks to the set up, perfect intonation as well. So in the end, I spent roughly $170 to get a really great guitar with a good setup. So this raises the obvious question - if I had shelled out $150-200 to buy one of the lower end Yahamas instead, how would that guitar compare? My guess is it may still be imperfect, and that you'd have to get into the $300+ range (such as the Seagull S6 Entourage) to get an out-of-the-box guitar with good set up and action.
So, bottom line, 4 stars for the fact that I had to make a further investment. But in the end, I think it worked out pretty great, and I love this guitar.

Rocking Afghanistan, November 15, 2008

First, I had NO IDEA HOW TO PLAY the guitar before I ordered this 'cheap' guitar and had it shipped to Afghanistan where I am currently stationed. It arrived FAST, which is great. It arrived in good shape, which means that the packaging is good. After I put it together (strings anyway) I busted the small string (whichever one that is). Fifteen minutes later and a little theft from a buddies string stash I had my guitar strung and tuned.
Since there are hundreds of podcasts on how to play a guitar for free and books all over this base on how to play the guitar - I am proud to say that I can now 'get by' with a a few tunes.
This guitar plays well, it is light (which I like), sounds nice (a little twangy) and is perfect for the price.
I will be leaving it here is Afghanistan when I return home, but it will continue to be enjoyed by soldiers for a long time as the quality of the manufacturing is good and sturdy.
Good buy!

I bought this guitar from Austin Bazaar as a Christmas gift for my 13yr old daughter who is keen to learn to play. It was excellently packaged and is a beautiful instrument. We could not believe the quality of the sound! It has a superb tone and is impressively crafted. Excellent value for money. We will certainly be recommending it to others.

I bought this guitar from Amazon several months ago and I've been very pleased. I've always been told that it is best to learn to play on an acoustic guitar, and after having an electric guitar sit neglected in the corner of my room, I decided I needed to get serious about my playing. I came here because I was looking for a deal, but I was wary when I saw the price of this guitar. However after reading all the reviews, I purchased it and have never looked back. This guitar is amazing. I play it every day -- it's such a great beginner guitar, needless to say much better a beginner guitar than a Strat. It stays in tune, all the notes are so profoundly audible, the woodwork and strings are of great quality; I'd recommend this guitar to anyone, experienced or not.
This guitar has really inspired me to get busy playing, just because it's so worth the money. Best $100 I've ever spent.
