5.0 out of 5 stars A Martial Artist's Perspective - 60 Lumens with the nasty bite of the Yawara stick
To say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement. I loved the crisp packaging and incredible design of this tool. With it's hard anodized aluminum finish, O-ring seals, Xenon lamp and metallic-vapor coated reflector this is easily one of the best flashlights I have ever owned. 3.0 out of 5 stars A Self defence flashlight
The first thing that caughts one's eye when looking at E2D are the heavy "teeth" around the bezel and end cap of the flashlight. The purpose of these teeth is to facilitate using the flashlight as a striking tool or nerve point manipulation instrument, much like Kubotan. The flashlight is designed to be sturdy enough to withstand the impact forces if used as a striking...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Martial Artist's Perspective - 60 Lumens with the nasty bite of the Yawara stick, January 17, 2007

Because the Surefire E2D is a tactical light, it is held in an icepick fashion and operated by a tailcap switch. You push the button lightly for momentary activation or press all the way to leave on.
I'm a martial artist and I can attest to the importance of being able to effectively protect yourself without raising the eyebrows of the law. For those that believe in this, this is THE tool to own. The E2D is both a visual and impact weapon combined. The flashlight uses a Xenon bulb, a conductive gas bulb, the same ones used in projectors. At a blinding 60 Lumens (light intensity), it's enough to leave an assailant seeing stars while you get away. Should the need arise, the flashlight can function as a nasty Yawara stick. The Surefire E2D is armed with scalloped bezels, as sharp as screwdriver tips, at both ends that can be used for hammerfist and thrusting strikes. If you want to get a rough feel for what a hammerfist strike is like, take a metal or wooden rod, hold it in an icepick grip and slam it as hard as you can into something. More than likely it will leave a distinguishable dent. The only difference with the Surefire is that the scalloped bezels are fashioned like teeth to concentrate the power and even puncture the target. That's enough power to crack a skull, break bones and/or leave a nasty bruise. It's highly recommended you only use the flashlight in this manner when your life is in danger. Applying joint locks is not out of the question although the natural reaction for anyone is to strike first. For those trained in such styles, the E2D is a great pain compliance and control tool whereby the sharp ends of the scalloped bezel can be used to grind into pressure-sensitive and bony areas to subdue an assailant.
Lastly, the flashlight can also function as a fistload, reinforcing your punches in a self-defense situation.

With that being said, this flashlight is definitely something that should be looked into.

5.0 out of 5 stars Executive deffender, March 27, 2006
This review is from: Surefire E2D-BK Defender 60 Lumens Incandescent Flashlight Strike Bezel Black (Sports)
I always carry a nice pocket knife and a flash light .

I have the executive defender. I wish i had gotten a light without the sharp edges on it. I mean they aren't sharp like a knife, but in your pocket they don't feel good if you carry the light and reach in your pocket for change. I have had my light cut a hole in a pair of pants.

that being said, i love this light, the batteries don't last long, but i normally don't have my light on for an hour where i cant get to a fresh set of batteries.

my chief complaint
The belt clip cant compare to the one on my Benchmade knife.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone should own a Surefire Defender, August 13, 2004

If you are like our family we all hike, bike, hunt and camp as much as possible. The surefire defender is lightweight, compact and for the product you receive is very affordable. Once seeing the surfire defender you will want to purchase one for everyone in your family especially your female family members. The Surefire Defender is brighter than my Mag Light and easier to carry.

Small, but exceptionally bright, this light outperforms any larger lights I've been able to match it against. Shining it on a huge eucalyptus tree outside our house, I'm able to see details at the top, something that no other light has allowed me to do.

I own a 1/2 dozen surefire flashlights. This one is small, light, durable and bright. The striker bezel is a great impact weapon as well. I carry this one with me, all the other ones have their own places around the house and cars. If you can't afford this price point but need a bright flashlight, go with their G2 Nitrolon: for $35 it can't be beat. If you don't need the blinding 60 lumens this model provides but have the bucks to spend, then take a look at the LED models they offer such as the L1 LumaMax or E2L Outdoorsman; They don't provide the high intensity, but the batteries last much longer and their slightly higher price pays for itself in battery cost and replacement bulb cost savings. Nothing beats a Sure-Fire flashlight!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Flashlight....Ever....., May 25, 2007

The E2D light is, in my opinion, the best flashlight money can buy. It's not expensive when you look at the power this thing puts out. You can light up a whole field with this pocket-sized light. The E2D can blind somebody with night adjusted vision for up to 10 minutes, and can be used (if need be) as a severely effective weapon. It's a great light when you work in a theater, or when you work as a police officer (or anything in between I suppose). This flashlight is one hundred percent quality....I wouldn't choose anything else.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect product, August 1, 2006
This review is from: Surefire E2D-BK Defender 60 Lumens Incandescent Flashlight Strike Bezel Black (Sports)
PRO: brightest light I've ever seen.
good size for pocket but should really be carried in a holster
Strike bezel feature is reassuring to have, tested it on a friend, it really does hurt

CON: Battery life, all SureFire lights have short battery life, it's the price you pay for their intense brightness

5.0 out of 5 stars Best There Is, January 24, 2007
This review is from: Surefire E2D-BK Defender 60 Lumens Incandescent Flashlight Strike Bezel Black (Sports)
The only way I will replace this light is if it gets lost. This is an outstanding piece of equipment, and worth every penny. More of a weapon than the big Mag-Lites, brighter, lighter, more compact, and clearly a better engineered tool. I run a bar, and I walk to work, this light never leaves my side. Do yourself a favor if you can afford it, or save some money and buy the equally well made G2Z Nitrolon. You can't go wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good light, December 4, 2006
This review is from: Surefire E2D-BK Defender 60 Lumens Incandescent Flashlight Strike Bezel Black (Sports)
Standard issue of Tacoma PD. Very bright light. If you wack someone upside the head hard enough with the strike bezel it will hole punch a chunk out of their skull and they WILL die. It has happened. This is meant as a last ditch defence weapon so use care.

Well what can I say it is a surefire and all that entails, very bright, convenient to fit in a pocket and just generally useful.
