My one year old LOVES this toy, and so do I...
I went to Toys R Us to buy the plain Naturally Playful sandbox because I wanted one large enough to fit 2 children it it at one time, and some of the other boxes just seemed too small. Pretty good if you like wet sand!
I thought it was the cutest thing. My two girls played in it and had a ball! The next day it rained and they haven't played in it since. It doesn't dry out and it keeps getting wet when it rains. I think the top doesn't fit good.

I went to Toys R Us to buy the plain Naturally Playful sandbox because I wanted one large enough to fit 2 children it it at one time, and some of the other boxes just seemed too small. When I got to the store this item was on sale for just $20.00 more than the one I originally planned to purchase. I was a little concerned about the sandbox capacity since the dimensions for the sandbox portion were not specifically listed at the store, so a staff person let me go along into the stock room to get a peek inside the box to get a better idea. It looked close enough for me, and so for only an additional $20.00 I got not only a sandbox, but also a picnic table for 4 and a cute little umbrella to provide much needed shade. I also bought the 300 lbs of sand that Step 2 recommends for this product- expect to pay an additional $30.00 for sand (which is really nice coarse sand by the way) if you get it there.
You will need either a pick-up truck, a larger suv or van to take this item home. It fit sort of angled into the back of our chevy s-10, and all 6 of those bags of sand took up a little room as well. Don't plan to pick this up in your honda.
When we got it home it was very easy to get out of the truck (only 50 lbs) and out of the box as well. It went together in less than 10 minutes with a good drill to put the screws in- there are 10 of them and the holes are not pre-drilled, but it is pretty obvious where they are to go. We dumped in all six bags of sand, stuck the umbrella in the stand and in jumped my child.
He had no difficulty getting in or out of the sandbox and has PLENTY of room in there for himself as well as a friend. (The dimensons of that part are something close to 3ftx4ft in an oval). The table is a great height and it is easy for him to get seated because he can swing his legs right in from the sides and not have to climb over like some other tables. The little umbrella fits down into the hole nicely- but be warned, if you get a lot of gusty wind in your area you might want to figure out a way to secure it down a little better. The end has a sharp plastic point on it (like a beach umbrella) and we had a gust of around 30+ mph that pulled it out of the table and across the top of the sandbox- where my kid was playing! When not in use the umbrella will store under the lid in the sandbox with all the sand toys. The lid fits nice and snug and will keep the rain and kitty cats out of the sand, but we did put a bungee cord over it as well because of the wind in our area.
The product seems really durable, like all Step 2 merchandise. I should mention that it could also double as a swimming pool (it has a drain that can be plugged and unplugged) or large planter when the kids outgrow it.

This sand box is great! I wish I had bought it sooner!! My daughter is 2 and she would play in it all day if I let her!! It's very durable and easy to put together! I love the fact that it has a hard top lid to keep out animals.

5 Star Buy!, April 29, 2005
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Naturally Playful Summertime Play Center (Toy)
We are so happy with this purchase! The sandbox is sturdy and easily fits two toddlers with room to spare (more if they are willing to sit on the sides). We only put 3 bags of sand, and it's decent but we're going back to get more. Having the picnic table with umbrella attached is SUCH a nice feature. You can have lunch and playtime all at once, and it accommodates more children. 4 toddlers easily fit on the bench and seem comfy. Being low to the ground, makes it safe seating too. We're thrilled overall! Note: When we first put it together, the lid didn't fit all the way down; so we placed a heavy item on top for the first week to get it to the right shape. Now it fits well and keeps the rain and animals out. :)

Great outdoor fun!!, March 10, 2005
Durability: Fun: Educational:

We bought this item for out daughter's second birthday to give her more to do in the backyard. She loves to sit and play in the sand for as long as we will let her and the umbrella helps keep her out of the sun on hot days. It was very easy to put together and the cover is nice so that critters can't "play" in her sand.

Great sandbox, October 24, 2005
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Naturally Playful Summertime Play Center (Toy)
We've had this sandbox/picnic table for 2 years now, and my 2 year old son loves it. Reasons why I like it:
- Plenty big for 2
- It's really really cute
- Not obnoxious colors. Looks good in our yard.
- Our lid stays on, and it's never leaked or blown off.
- Umbrella fits under sand box lid
Things to consider:
Obviously, you're paying extra $$ for the attached picnic table. It's really really cute, but my 2 year olds have never actually sat at it for more than 30 seconds, even to eat, because the sand box is too tempting. And if they were to eat at it, usually it has sand all over it.
This gripe would be about any sandbox and 2 year olds. They love to play in sand, but they get covered with sand - in their clothes, hair, ears... I know boys are made to get dirty, but it's hard getting them from the yard to the tub without getting sand all over the house! But they love it, and that's what matters!!!

Great toy!! Hours and hours of fun., April 21, 2005
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Naturally Playful Summertime Play Center (Toy)
We bought this toy for my 2 year old niece. It was the hit of the party. We put a ton of ball-pit balls in it first and we couldn't get ANY of the children out of it. After the party, they told me they put sand it in and said their daughter loves this toy. The umbrella is great for protection and shade and the bench is good for sharing in their play and adding another play space. If you are considering buying this toy, it is a great investment.

Excellent Toy for multi purpose use, April 10, 2005
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Naturally Playful Summertime Play Center (Toy)
For the upcoming summer I was in the market for a sand box and a picni table for our 18 month old son. The combination toy is absolutely perfect and fits the bill. It is sturdy and well made and the cover is tight fitting. The table is just the right size for our son and he is alreay enjoying outside lunches! THe umbrella is adorable but only provides shade when the sun is directly above as it does not tilt. Overall a geat toy for the price and one he will enjoy all summer.

Great activity center for 1 - 3 year olds!, August 10, 2006
This review is from: Naturally Playful Summertime Play Center (Toy)
My husband and I bought this Summertime Playcenter for our daughter's first birthday. I was looking for a standing sand table but wanted sun protection (my daugher has very fair skin like her Mom!). When I found this item I thought it would be great to have the sandbox plus picnic table and sun umbrella all in one - and it is! She and 2 of her friends who are between 2-3 years old spent one entire Saturday afternoon in and out of the sandbox, spreading sand on the table, sitting at the table, and having a ball. My husband also likes the fact that the set is plastic (easy to maintain vs wood) but doesn't look like a loudly colored hunk of plastic in the yard (made to look like wood).
Our lid was a bit misshapen from shipping but after leaving it on the sandbox in the sun for a couple of days, it fits tightly. I would recommend removing the umbrella entirely when not in use - it's not too securely set into the table and can blow away even when down ... may be a safety hazard!

Lid doesn't fit well, April 18, 2005
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Naturally Playful Summertime Play Center (Toy)
I was delighted with the idea of a sandbox combined with a picnic table and the fact that it blends in well with our yard. However, I was a little disappointed that the lid doesn't seem to fit that well and it has allowed rain to get in the sandbox on several occassions. It's almost like the lid is a tiny bit too small for the box and it allows water to seep in. Does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong?
