I love my new dinnerware set!
This was such a bargain at $199. Not only did I get the service for 8, I also got 5 serving pieces. The set of dinnerware arrived promptly....and the shipping was free. On top of that, I got another discount for spending a certain amount of money. It was a much better bargain than eBay!
One plate had a slight chip. Amazon was wonderful about compensating me for...

Quality control is TERRIBLE
I was extremely disappointed that BOTH the 45-piece sets I purchased were defective. There are black speckles, brown spots, even a green spot in the glaze. This is on nearly every single piece. I have contacted Mikasa by their 800 number and was told they were aware of the problem and would send me good sets, but so far nothing has been done. This is creamware and it...

I was extremely disappointed that BOTH the 45-piece sets I purchased were defective. There are black speckles, brown spots, even a green spot in the glaze. This is on nearly every single piece. I have contacted Mikasa by their 800 number and was told they were aware of the problem and would send me good sets, but so far nothing has been done. This is creamware and it should be creamy white with no dirty looking spots on it. I love the pattern, the size of the plates, everything but the quality. They really need to address this problem at the factory, and not sell seconds as top quality china!

One plate had a slight chip. Amazon was wonderful about compensating me for it with no hassles. Since I can buy more pieces to this set, I was easily able to replace the one plate locally with the money refunded to me. Amazon really stood behind the product. I was very well satisfied with the product and service from Amazon. Thanks!

Excellent Set of Dishes - Worth Every Penny., December 28, 2007

My husband and I were looking for a decent set of dishes that didn't chip or burn our hands from microwave use. After going through a couple of sets of dishes that look great but didnt hold up to everyday use, we decided to "invest" in a set of dinnerware that not only looked great but would last. We have had these for about a year now and so far, no chips and no stains and STILL a pleasure to use. Prior to purchasing this Mikasa set we experimented with several different brands of dishes by testing them in the microwave. They were all made in China and not one of them passed the ouch-burn-the-fingers test, even the brandnamed ones. After a frustrating and dissapointing search we were very happy indeed to have come across this Mikasa. It may seem expensive but considering the sets we have trashed and were probably going to trash with the cheaper stuff, its money well spent indeed.

I ordered the 45-piece place setting, it had to be the quickest turn around I have ever come across. Ordered on a Thursday, had it on a Monday! Everything was in perfect condition. I am so pleased with Amazon and the way they do business. I will buy from them again.
The dishes are beautiful, I couldn't be happier. Thank you!

Gorgeous and functional..., August 18, 2006

I was looking for a new casual china pattern in solid white and found Italian Countryside. Beautiful! The dishes are well made and classic; they're a good weight--not too heavy nor light and flimsy. The pattern can be dressed up for special occasions yet is perfect for everyday. I'm very pleased with the quality and as always, the great delivery by Amazon. Now the quest begins for additional pattern pieces!! It's great that Mikasa makes so many companion pieces in this pattern as well as open stock for replacement of broken or lost pieces.

7 years of use later: still beautiful, February 16, 2009

My wife and i received a set of Italian Countryside Dinnerware for our wedding back in 2000. Nearly eight years later, they are still as nice as the day we received them. We use them daily, and have found the quality to be very high. The only issue we've had is that the handle of one of the coffee mugs has a crack in it that has caused the handle to start to come loose from the mug. Only one of the mugs developed this problem, so I'd say it is an irregularity not a design issue.
I can verify that this is a quality set of dinnerware. If you like the design, you can't go wrong with this set. We also own all of the mixing bowls, large coffee cups and saucers, and two serving trays. All are equally nice and have stood the test of time.

Because so many have complained of broken dishes, I'd like to report mine arrived completely intact.
I like the set, although the dinner plates are quite large, as is the fashion now.

Poor Customer Service, November 9, 2006

I purchase this itam for a Christmas gift for my Mother. I received it on 11-6-06. There is 4 broken pieces. I contacted customer service and the rep. kept reading the return policy that the whole set had to be returned. The Supervisor refused to get on the phone. I wrote an email and complained and I told them the reviews indicated Amazon worked with other customers to replace the broken pieces. I recieved, this morning, an email stating I had to return the whole set. I don't under the problem since they sell the individual pieces on their wed site. The set is pretty but not worth the aggravation. 11-9-06

Amazon did give me back some $ for me to replace the broken items. I guess I should not complain about that part, but it does feel a bit risky to buy items like this online, plus I am very busy and not sure about where to shop for the two matching plates. In general I think they look pretty, though I have not used them yet.
