It's good, but not great
This does what it's meant to do. It sets up easily, but it is noisy. I used it for the first time last night, and had to turn my tv volume up very high.
Like I said, it works and does what it is supposed to do.

Good trainer and value...if you don't mind the noise
I recenly purchased this trainer for 119.99 through amazon and I was happy with it...except for the noise. It's not incredibly loud but it's loud enough so that if you want to watch TV while riding you have to put the volume up pretty loud. That bothered me so I returned it and got a fluid trainer and it was much quieter. Some nice things about the blackburn mag...

Good trainer and value...if you don't mind the noise, April 7, 2006

I recenly purchased this trainer for 119.99 through amazon and I was happy with it...except for the noise. It's not incredibly loud but it's loud enough so that if you want to watch TV while riding you have to put the volume up pretty loud. That bothered me so I returned it and got a fluid trainer and it was much quieter. Some nice things about the blackburn mag trainer was that it came assembled right out of the box, resistance was smooth, it fit a large variety of wheels, and mounting the bike onto the trainer was easy. The negatives were the noise and also it seemed to wear out the tire quite a bit. If you do purchase this trainer you might want to purchase a cheap tire to put on your bike while you use it.

Great value and quality!, March 15, 2006
This review is from: Blackburn Trakstand Mag Indoor Bicycle Trainer (Sports)
Great trainer-just what I was looking for to get a jump-start back into cycling. Works great with my mountain bike; arrived fully assembled and the instructions for mounting the bike were very clear. Much quieter than I expected, a nice surprise! Great bang for your buck.

Is it possible to love a trainer?, August 12, 2006
This review is from: Blackburn Trakstand Mag Indoor Bicycle Trainer (Sports)
Previously, I owned a wind trainer, and I have to say, this was an incredible upgrade. I can actually watch TV or hold a conversation with my kids while riding without even noticing the noise.
Overall, I love the trainer as much as it's possible to, though I do have a couple of problems that having invested a little more money might have solved. The mounting is not quite as easy as some of the other trainers in the higher price ranges. There are three degrees of intensity, which is nice, though I find that I rarely use this feature, simply leaving it on level 3. The other problem was with the shipping. When I received my trainer, it made a horrible pinging noise, and I could not change the intensity level. I had to do a little bit of exploring with a screwdriver and then figure outfor my myself what was wrong. IT seems the magnets had come loose during shipping and fallen out of their brackets. Once that was fixed though, it was smooth sailing without a ping in the world.
I would definitely recommend this trainer for the avid amateur rider.

Rock Solid Competence at a Bargain Price, December 16, 2008
This review is from: Blackburn Trakstand Mag Indoor Bicycle Trainer (Sports)
It is possible to spend over $2000 on a computerized resistance trainer just as it's possible to spend upwards of $15,000 on road bike. If this shoe fits, wear it in good health. In this case, ignore the plain little Blackburn Trackstand because it likely won't suffice.
On the other hand, if the performance/price ratio of a resistance trainer matters, the Blackburn Trackstand is the Gold Standard. This inexpensive appliance does what it's supposed to, does it well, and does it at a fantastic price point.
$1000 aluminum road bike. Check. Inexpensive Blackburn Trackstand? Check. MP3 player and caffeine? Check. Water bottle? Check. Hammer it long...hammer it hard. Need less resistance? Downshift. Need more resistance? Upshift. It's elemental, and that's just the way I like it. Bravo, Blackburn!

Blackburn Trakstand review, January 14, 2008
This review is from: Blackburn Trakstand Mag Indoor Bicycle Trainer (Sports)
The Blackburn Trakstand is great! It is a good quality trainer and has been everything I had hoped for. You really need the Trakstand Block to go under the front tire for this set up so you can ride level as you would outside.

Not a bad trainer at all., March 23, 2009
This review is from: Blackburn Trakstand Mag Indoor Bicycle Trainer (Sports)
This is my first trainer, so I have no experience with any other.
That being said, it works great for me. To help with the noise problem, I went and bought a VERY smooth rear tire, and set the trainer on a thin rubber mat. No unrealistic noise that shouldnt be expected from riding a bike inside a house. I could pop in and watch a movie while using it.
Wanna be cheap? Throw an old phone book under the front wheel to balance/level the bike.
The only gripe I have is the initial mounting of the bike. Finding the right way/angle to secure the skewer caused me to almost launch off the thing more than once.
(Hint: Secure skewer pointing BACK before mounting.)
Other than difficult mounting of bike, it's a good product. You're gonna work though, so no 'cruising'. If you tire, use a lower gear, and keep spinning!

this is good, January 12, 2009
This review is from: Blackburn Trakstand Mag Indoor Bicycle Trainer (Sports)
I just got one of these. I have an older mountain bike I was not using, set it up within 10 minutes, no tools required, no taking apart of my bike required (you will need air in your back tire!). The only other regular exercise I get is 30 minutes of walking, so I needed something different to do...this will definitely do the trick, my bike now has a purpose and I am getting a different type of exercise. It is quieter than our older nordictrak, quieter than the treadmill we used to have, so if you are used to that type of exercise equipment, the sound will not bother you. Put on your headphones and don't worry about getting hit by a car!

Blackburn Mag Trainer, January 6, 2008
This review is from: Blackburn Trakstand Mag Indoor Bicycle Trainer (Sports)
I bought this item for my wife to use, so she could still bike during the winter months. It is very easy to set up and use, and while it is somewhat noisy, it is not any louder than one might expect it to be. She can ride it and hear the TV or radio with no problems.
This is a great item that I would highly recommend.

Product not suitable for serious cyclists, June 2, 2009
This review is from: Blackburn Trakstand Mag Indoor Bicycle Trainer (Sports)
I bought this item to train during the week in order to improve my weekend rides. It simply doesn't have enough resistance for me to improve hills and wattage output that I need. I have cranked up the resistance to 3, applied maximum pressure to the tire and put the bike in the hardest gear. It makese a terrific noise and I can smell burning but resistance doesn't mimic what I get out of a spinning bike which is what I expect / need. Perhaps I was expecting too much.
