cooks like a dream; cleans like a nightmare!
The Griddler cooks like a dream. It's fast!! I've tried hamburgers, chicken, fajitas and they all came out really well. I'm looking foward to trying paninis next. The only problem is cleaning the unit. It takes longer to clean than to cook most items. a few drawbacks
I wasn't paying attention when I bought my grill, and read "non-removable" as "removable" when i glanced at the description. Being able to take off the plates would make all the difference. Cleanup is difficult. When cleaning the top plate, unless you hold onto it as you clean, pulling it forward a bit, there's dripping onto the back of the grill and counter (you can't...

cooks like a dream; cleans like a nightmare!, March 28, 2006
This review is from: Cuisinart GR-2 Griddler Express Contact Grill (Kitchen)
The Griddler cooks like a dream. It's fast!! I've tried hamburgers, chicken, fajitas and they all came out really well. I'm looking foward to trying paninis next. The only problem is cleaning the unit. It takes longer to clean than to cook most items. I have figured out that if you spray water on the plates once it has cooled it cleans much easier but you still have to methodically clean each groove in the grill and then when you clean down the drip trough you have to reclean the grooves. I'm considering changing over to the new George Foreman grill just to be able to remove the plates and put them in the dishwasher.

An excellent panini maker and contact grill, March 9, 2006
This review is from: Cuisinart GR-2 Griddler Express Contact Grill (Kitchen)
It's large enough to handle two large sandwiches or 3-4 boneless chicken breasts. Both sides cook evenly. The floating lid adapts well to different thicknesses. It's easy to clean even though the plates aren't removable. Be sure to let it cool down before moving it. Many outside surfaces get hot

Good, not great, August 15, 2007
This review is from: Cuisinart GR-2 Griddler Express Contact Grill (Kitchen)
Good for the price. Great would require restaurant quality. As far as non-removable plates, they are not a negative but a positive. Non-removable plates are generally more sturdy, secure and permanently attached to the heating element. Removable plates generally mean poor heating time and coverage.

Better Than I Expected, February 21, 2009
This review is from: Cuisinart GR-2 Griddler Express Contact Grill (Kitchen)
The Griddler Express is my third grilling device (the other 2 being George Formans). After watching a 'Test Kitchen' review of several grillers, I chose this one expecting it to work mainly for Panini. Well, after seeing how hot it got, I got adventuresome and tried a steak (no bones, of course) and it cooked faster than had anticipated resulting in overcooking (my bad!). The top plate is not as hot as the bottom by a small but significant margin which is more a matter of appearance than effectiveness. Flipping the food halfway through the cooking cycle evens things out and gives one the chance to create 'cross-hatched' grill marks by rotating the steak, etc. by about 45 degrees. I found that this also results in a shorter cook time as well. One reviewer lamented the lack of a thermostat but that's what the variable control is. The nearly universal complaint is the lack of removable plates and I have to agree although, in my experience with electric griddles, the ones with the element embedded in the plates heat more evenly. They could still make them removable/reversible with the embedded elements but this would increase the cost (a price I'd be willing to pay). As far as cleaning, I found that by using a DRY paper towel held with a pair of tongs works very well if used while the unit is still hot. You have to hold onto the top plate with a pot holder when cleaning the upper plate. The build-up of residue on the towel actually increases the effectiveness of removibility if its done while the unit is still hot (be careful not to scrape the surface with the tongs). A final note: it's fantastic for cooking asparagus - just lay the spears in the groves. When done to your liking, serve with a drizzle of good olive oil, wine vinegar and fresh ground black pepper. Hope you find this review helpful.

Cleanup is difficult. When cleaning the top plate, unless you hold onto it as you clean, pulling it forward a bit, there's dripping onto the back of the grill and counter (you can't just let it rest in place). Another small quibble is I can't see the indicator lights when the grill is closed unless I stoop down or lean in over it, and I'm average height. On the plus side, it heats up quickly and evenly, and it's nice to have three heat settings.

Exsellent value!, January 5, 2007
This review is from: Cuisinart GR-2 Griddler Express Contact Grill (Kitchen)
We bought this as a replacement for an aging "George"... We got very tired of the impossible job of scraping the "George" wondering if we were eating teflon!! The Cuisinart is extremely easy to clean, cooks faster than "George" and performs as advertised. As a matter of fact, we bought five more as this years Christmas gifts for our 5 children!!

grilling, April 6, 2008
This review is from: Cuisinart GR-2 Griddler Express Contact Grill (Kitchen)
I love my new Grill and found the best and easiest way to clean is,
to put a double sheet of very wet paper towels on the grill while its still hot ,
hot and let stand while you eat your delicious grilled dinner - cleanup is a breeze

Superb product, October 29, 2006
This review is from: Cuisinart GR-2 Griddler Express Contact Grill (Kitchen)
Most Cuisinart products are grossly overpriced. Their 100.00 coffee brewers are a joke, bar none. I recently purchased this griddler from Amazon. I am 99.44% pleased with it. A grilled steak is superb. It is a bit difficult to clean. I wish it had removeable plates and I wish it had a timer as well as the thermostat. I don't understand why a company can't put the features people want in a product. Would I buy it again -- perhaps overpriced -- but YES. A good product.

Great once you get the cleaning routine down, June 8, 2008
This review is from: Cuisinart GR-2 Griddler Express Contact Grill (Kitchen)
I thought this model had removable plates but it doesn't. At first this was a pain in the neck but I've learned how to clean it. I don't use the grease cup, I just put some paper towels under the drip area. The grill cleans best when it's hot and you use a very wet cloth or wet paper towels.
I mostly cook burgers, chicken breasts and sandwiches on it, I also grill vegetables. It's fantastic for making pressed Cuban sandwiches! The grill heats up really fast and gets very hot so that is a big plus when cooking a lot of things. On days I don't feel like using the outdoor gas grill, this is a great and very effective alternative. The only caution I'd make is that food cooks very quickly so be careful not to overcook your food. It can happen very easily.
I've used it about six months and I am very pleased with this grill. I thought that one with removable plates would be a better thing to have, but I've read that they don't work as well as the fixed-plate grillers. So I'm satisfied and would recommend this grill.

Great product, January 3, 2007
This review is from: Cuisinart GR-2 Griddler Express Contact Grill (Kitchen)
I bought one of these for my sister in law for christmas last 2 years ago and she absolutely loves it. She takes it everywhere with her including on vacation. It heats up quickly and cleans up very well. The cooking space is also sufficient to get several panini's done at the same time. Great product and always available at a great price.
