Far and away the nicest feature about this unit is the dual beam transducer. It has great accuracy not only under the boat, but off to the sides. Lastly the option of mounting the transducer to the trolling motor without having to buy an adapter was icing on the cake.

I purchased this a while back and was using it on my small boat for estuary fishing. I have since upgraded to a Garmin 300C color unit but I am having problems with getting a good reading from it. I am almost thinking of going back to the FF140! It has a nice large screen, good clarity and I had no trouble identifying features despite its grayscale screen. Menus were easy to operate and it simply worked very well. Its definitely one of the better budget B&W fish finders ont he market today in my opinion.

This is by far the best fishfinder in the price range. This is a VERY durable product, I love the low energy comsumption. I found it pretty straight forward to use and don't need to carry the manual around. The resolution is good, screen is viewable in daylight and the readings seem accurate. It has already made a diffrence in our fishing.

I purchased this unit as a secondary dephfinder on my fishing boat. I was curious to see how it would compare to my other dephfinder that cost twice as much (not a Garmin). The Garmin works just as well, and in some cases better than the other brand that cost more. I am very satisfied with this unit especially considering the price. This one even tells me the depth when I'm motoring full speed across the water (20 mph). The more expensive one on my boat does not tell me depth at full speed. This is a great unit for the money.

Depth finder is excellent, easy to use, fine picture; temperature reads about 3 degrees low. Neeeded a portable, unfortunately didn't know Garmin offered this option until I saw it in the instructions! With a little improvisation and some leftover parts from my last depth finder, I made it portable. Generally very pleased with it, certainly price is right.

This model (FF 140) is an entry level fish finder, but it does everything I need for a day of fishing. It has a very large read-out screen. The specs say the screen is 4", but it is actually 4.7" when measured diagonally (the way ALL screens are measured).
I use it in the Harbor (saltwater) and in the local lakes (fresh water) and it has never failed to show me everything I need to know whether anchored, drifting or going 30 M.P.H.
I highly recommend Garmin. I bought Garmin because I heard nothing but bad things about Hummingbird finders. I'm glad I bought Garmin.

I use this primarily as a depth finder, instead of a fishfinder. I got it because Garmin claims it reads depth accurately in shallow water. I am really pleased with it. It is very accurate and doesn't flake out like an older Piranha Max unit I had previously. Also a great price.

I could give it 5 stars for the graph itself, but I could give it 0 for the universal Transom/Trollmotor transducer. It hangs down low under the trolling motor housing in harms way. (Go to Garmin's website and download the owner's manual to view how the transducer mounts to the motor).I broke it first time out. I fabricated a mounting bracket from aluminum plate. So far so good. This product should be available with a puck style transducer just for mounting to trolling motor.

I purchased the Garmin Fishfinder 140 about a month ago and have used it on 3 different fishing trips. It has performed up to my high expectations! The set up was relatively quick and simple with some DIY experience. The menu and programming options are very simple and breezed through them without even consulting the owner's manual. Overall, I'm impressed with the unit and the options it comes with. I was looking at a few different Humminbird fishfinders, but since this one was consistently rated higher, and many people reviewed it so well, even though it was cheaper priced than Humminbird, I took a calculated risk. It paid off in spades. Garmin has made a good name for themselves (I have 2 other Garmin products that I've had for several years and have never had a problem with them) and this product is and should be no exception. Now, I'm goin' fishin'! lol
