Great coffee maker
I bought this to replace a cheap one-cup maker I bought from from one of those junk catalog. This one is very nice looking, it works ultra fast with automatic shut off and I can use my own larger mug instead of the cup which comes with it. If you use a huge mug you may need to add more water. I like the cord on the side. If it was on the back, you couldn't put it up...

...which is make one 8 oz cup of coffee. There are ways to work around it tho, if you drink more coffee:
1) You can go over the fill line and get about 14 oz of coffee, and I haven't had any bad experiences doing so yet. You have to stay close though, and do a cup switch, or the cup will overflow, since there's not enough space to hold a bigger cup than the one that comes with the coffeemaker.
2)Dump the grinds and make another cup.
3) The best so far, put extra coffee into the filter. When the first cup is done, pour the coffee into a bigger cup. Turn the machine back on and run more water through the same coffee grinds. When that's finished, put it into the bigger cup with the coffee you made before.
4) Cut down on your coffee <ACK..NO!!>
So, my displeasure with the product is because of my own tastes. But for making one 8 oz cup of coffee, it's of overall good quality. It doesn't take up a lot of space, so great for those with little counterspace. It looks sleek, just like in the picture. Also, it's nice not having a glass pot, which often broke on me. Not having to buy filters is also convenient.
Finally, as for having a plastic scoop, you still have to figure out how much coffee is the proper strength for your taste. So, using exactly two scoops won't work for everyone, like the advertisement says. However, that is true for all coffeemakers.
So, if you're sure you only want one 8 oz cup of coffee, or don't mind making one cup twice, short on counterspace, hate buying and storing filters and always breaking your glass coffee urn, this is the coffeemaker for you!!

Great Little Coffee Maker--for a year and a half, September 7, 2007
This review is from: Single Cup Coffee Maker (Misc.)
Additional comment, 2009: My original review is below, but here's what happened eventually: The machine started to leak like crazy. It had a lifespan of about 18 months.
Original review:
I have no interest in pod-coffee (I roast my own beans), so that limited my choices when I decided to take my all-white-plastic Black and Decker one-cupper to the office, and spring for a better-looking pot for home.
This stainless and black-plastic machine makes very good coffee indeed, looks terrific and cleans up quickly and beautifully. (I've used the white one for years and it looks dreadful at this point). I congratulate myself on this purchase.
As for the amount it makes: a standard mug. I wouldn't want it any bigger. All my mugs fit into it and I prefer two fresh cups to one big stale one.
I use unbleached No. 1 coffee filters (or cut down bigger ones if I can't find No.1s) instead of the permanent filter it came with because the paper picks up residual oil, is easy to clean up, and the used grounds all end up in the compost or trash, not down the drain.

What a MESS!, October 16, 2008
This review is from: Single Cup Coffee Maker (Misc.)
We've had this coffee maker for over a year and most of the time it does what it says it will do, but our experience overall has been negative. At least once or twice a week it "overflows" for no apparent reason. It's NOT that the cup fills up and overflows. Coffee flows from the top, with the mug half empty. This occurs even if we use the mug to measure the water (so it's not that we're so stupid that we add too much water.) We've tried different coffee, different position of the spray arm, etc. and nothing seems to fix the problem. We'll come back into the kitchen after starting the coffee maker and will find half a cup of coffee flooding the countertop. I wouldn't purchase this coffee maker again. We're looking for a replacement.

I do not like this at all !, February 3, 2007
This review is from: Single Cup Coffee Maker (Misc.)
Much smaller than I expected.
Thought it would provide a single mug of coffee,
since it looks like a normal size mug in the picture,
but in fact it is a small mug that only provides
8oz of fluid. It is only good to fill a tea sized cup.
Another dislike I have about it, is that the power cord
comes out of the left side of the coffee maker.
Makes it very messy looking with exposed cord.
You do not see it in the picture here, but it is in
fact on the left side.

Leaks all over the counter!!!, February 16, 2008
This review is from: Single Cup Coffee Maker (Misc.)
Got this as a gift, thought hey..this is great - one fresh cup of coffee at a time and would not be wasting coffee on a bigger machine as I am the only who does drink coffee (husband doesn't). Worked alright for a while and now almost each time I brew a cup..about a 1/4 of the coffee drips onto the counter, down the cabinets, and onto the floor. Even after cleaning it well folks! I cannot tell you how many paper towels I have had to use to clean up..very disappointed..expected a more superior product from Brookstone.

Brookstone single cup stainless steel coffee maker, December 25, 2007
This review is from: Single Cup Coffee Maker (Misc.)
Stainless Steel Single Cup Coffee Maker
We love this coffee maker and it makes a perfect cup of coffee in a short time. My husband likes his coffee stronger than mine so first I make mine and then he adds more coffee grounds to my used grounds and makes his. Works like a charm.
I'm chemically sensitive so I have to add that the innards are plastic but the plastic smell left after a few uses. The bottom of the stainless steel cup and the pad were rubber (very stinky) but I removed those. The removable filter works excellently. You can use your own cups in the pad too, ours fit well. This is a wonderful little coffee maker!

This stainless steel single cup coffee maker from Brookstone is the best little coffee maker I have ever purchased. It's easy to use. It's fast. It makes a superb cup of coffee and it's worth every penny I paid for it.

Great 1 cup coffee maker, November 4, 2007
This review is from: Single Cup Coffee Maker (Misc.)
We don't drink a lot of coffee, but, my wife loves her 1 cup in the morning. We wanted a single cup maker so as to not waste coffee.
This coffee maker is a great looking appliance, that is quality built. My wife is sensitive to the taste of paper filters, so this steel filter works great. Makes a good, hot, cup of coffee.
It is somewhat expensive though.

Good practical coffee maker, November 23, 2008
This review is from: Single Cup Coffee Maker (Misc.)
I have had this coffee maker for a little over a month and so far it has served me well. It is designed with simplicity in mind and so there is only one button to push to start the brewing and this has good and bad aspects; good because it's simple and that's what I like, but bad because if you hit the brew button by accident, there is no way to stop the brewing process short of unplugging the device from the wall, and even then when you plug it back in it will resume its 4 minute brewing cycle. But this is a minor inconvenience when you take into consideration that it brews a really good, quick cup of coffee, is small so doesn't take up a lot of counter space, and it's nice looking too. The mesh filter is easy to remove and rinse off. I thought the plastic components inside the device looked a bit cheap but they function perfectly well so far so I cannot complain. I decided on this over the Keurig single-cup coffeemaker because it was much cheaper, no expensive K-cups were needed, and it brews a great cup of coffee. I would recommend this product.
