quilt
My teenage neices LOVED it, even tho it seemed a toy for a much younger audience. It was quite beautiful and I considered ordering some for myself. I did have to order two for it to be big enough.

Great idea but inferior fabric
I ordered two of these kits as a gift for my niece with the idea that she could combine them and make a nice lap quilt. When they arrived, I was very disappointed to see the fabric was thin - more like something you would make pajamas out of. I was expecting the kit to be made of fleece to make a warm and cuddly blanket. Instead, it was more like knit flannel. I...

Perfect for long trips, December 29, 2007
This review is from: Alex Toys Knot-A-Quilt (Toy)
My 7 year old daughter spent several hours knotting the pieces of this quilt together on a 9 hour road trip. Everytime she put it down she would pick it back up and say, "one more." She didn't exactly make a quilt, she knottted a "purse" and a "hood" (mistakes turned useful) but she enjoyed it very much. If she'd had an adult's guidance making a quilt wouldn't have been a problem. This was a fantastic change from the constant DVD viewing that typically takes place on such long trips. I definitely recomend this craft.

What a super project!!, January 11, 2008
Durability: Fun: Educational:

We gave this kit to our 9-year-old daughter for Christmas this year and she has been so busy with it ever since. She is very proud of how well her blanket is turning out and is almost finished. Its simple to make, but not so simple that an older girl or boy would not be proud of the finished product. Fabric is wonderfully soft, colorful and easy to tie. Our daughter will have a high quality finished product and keepsake she'll cherish forever.

Mixed reviews from this family, November 29, 2009
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Alex Toys Knot-A-Quilt (Toy)
My kids and I worked on this project together. My ten-year-old enjoyed it and was very proud of the results. However, my eight-year-old got very frustrated and gave up. I decided to help and discovered why it was so frustrating for the younger child. The strips of fabric that you are supposed to tie together are just BARELY long enough to make a double knot. We had to work on the quilt in short periods of time because of the high frustration factor (even for me.) Just be aware that he picture on the box, with the perfectly flat quilt and perfectly tied knots is an impossible standard--the quilt we made was puckered and uneven, and that was with an adult helping. (It's still a cute quilt, and as long as my kid is happy, who cares?) Also, you have to be careful because if you pull the knots tight, you can actually tear the thin fleece. Since my older child enjoyed it, I'm going to get some more durable fabric and make a similar kit myself--I'll cut the strips longer so the knots will be much easier to tie. Overall, a good project for just the right child, probably an older child with a long attention span and good dexterity.

Great project for kids 9+, January 13, 2009
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Alex Toys Knot-A-Quilt (Toy)
I bought the Knot a Quilt for my 6 and 8 year old for a long car drive hoping to give them something to do. They loved the idea of making their own blanket, but had a hard time doing it for a long period of time without any help. My eight year old had a little trouble with it, and my six year old needed help with keeping the knots in order, it was frustrating for her.Overall, they liked it but I would recommend it for 9+ age group.

A well-appreciated gift., May 26, 2008
Durability: Fun: Educational:

A while ago I sent this as a gift for a tween. They live in another state, so I never did get to see the finished results. However, the family reported to me that Alex Knot a Quilt inspired hours of creative play and the effort was very well worth it because the results are beautiful.
The components are good quality, and the kit actually produces a beautiful, useful object.
Sounds great to me!

A Lot of Fun!, April 20, 2009
Durability: Fun: Educational:

I purchased this product for my 8 year old daughter. She loves it. She thought of a pattern on her own with the different colors. It is big enough for her to use to sit on the couch and in the car. It did not take her long to put it together and she enjoyed putting it together.

Great craft for 5-7 year old!, December 2, 2008
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Alex Toys Knot-A-Quilt (Toy)
this was the #1 item our then-kindergartener wanted for Christmas. She needed supervision so as to not get the knots mis-aligned --- but she's very pleased with herself that she pretty much did this on her own. If you have a little one interested in fabric crafts - I highly recommend it.
