Pleased with my purchase
What impressed me the most about my purchase was the packaging. In so many past experiences with amazon I have had outer boxes literally destroyed by the UPS delivery people. This time a pleasant suprise - the shipment came through by FedEx and was drop-shipped as opposed to having amazon simply put the manufacturer's box into their own. Whoever prepared the safe for...

Safe Arrived Dented
I might be generous by giving this product 3 stars. The safe had two dents (one in the upper corner and one on the upper right side edge of the safe). I did read on the safe that the safe had been drop-tested and fire-tested. The dents were disappointing for a $200+ item, but since the damage didn't appear too severe, I kept the product. The safe was the exact size that I...

Pleased with my purchase, April 4, 2009
What impressed me the most about my purchase was the packaging. In so many past experiences with amazon I have had outer boxes literally destroyed by the UPS delivery people. This time a pleasant suprise - the shipment came through by FedEx and was drop-shipped as opposed to having amazon simply put the manufacturer's box into their own. Whoever prepared the safe for shipment should be given an extended coffee break, for the safe came through without harm or injury. The care and attention given to the packing and material used was most evident. Well done!
Now to the item itself: I found the interior shelf to be a rather skimpy and cheap accessory. It could have and should have been made sturdier. The four clips used for it to rest upon fall out easily whenever the shelf is pulled forward - a "natural" procedure when trying to get to the item(s) placed upon it. Not a very well thought out design.
The instructions for setting up the key code are lacking in specificity. I could not locate the hole behind the door to proceed with the set up. At first I thought perhaps the wrong safe had been sent. Then it "dawned on me" to remove a plate that was screwed to the back of the door. There it was! The plate apparently was provided for heat protection for the inner workings of the comination. None of this was mentioned in the instructions. At any rate, mission accomplished!
I think this safe should have been provided with the fixture(s)necessary for bolting to the floor. The weight isn't sufficient to prevent someone from carrying it off - with difficulty, but still it could be done.
I'm not convinced that an override key isn't also a key to burglar access. Meaning if one key can do it all, why couldn't a burglar?
While I'm hardly an expert on assessing whether this safe or any other one will meet the tests, I hope that day never comes. It appears to have been manufactured well and does provide for the security we have sought.
This item meets our needs and I am pleased with the purchase.

Safe Arrived Dented, February 1, 2007
This review is from: First Alert 2054DF 1 Hour Steel Fire Safe with Digital Lock, 0.80 Cubic Foot, Gray (Tools & Hardware)
The safe was the exact size that I wanted and the instructions were easy and clear how to program the safe, a plus. Unfortunately, only after receiving the safe, did I read the comments of other reviewers of other models of Honeywell safes, most complained of dents or worse damage to their safes.

No Keys, July 23, 2007
This review is from: First Alert 2054DF 1 Hour Steel Fire Safe with Digital Lock, 0.80 Cubic Foot, Gray (Tools & Hardware)
Seems like Honeywell has a huge quality control problem. I am the second person reviewing honeywell safes on this site who received no keys. No master to open it, no keys for after it is progammed. Honeywells manual and their FAQ does not address where the the keys "should" be. They also have very poor customer service. I emailed them 3 days in a row on their "customer service" contact on their website - and still no response. They can just take this useless paperweight back at this point.
BUY A SAFE FROM ANOTHER COMPANY.

Garbage, February 28, 2010
This review is from: First Alert 2054DF 1 Hour Steel Fire Safe with Digital Lock, 0.80 Cubic Foot, Gray (Tools & Hardware)
When you buy something online, you generally expect it to be in top condition when you get it. When I was looking for a safe I thought this one was the best deal I could find. I read the reviews and saw this safe had a few about dents and such, but stupid me I thought "maybe I wont be that guy". A week a later I was "that guy". I received the safe and it had a dent on three sides and on the top two corners. So if you wanna be "that guy" then purchase this safe. It's up to you.

Reasonably good but NOT water-proof, February 17, 2010
This review is from: First Alert 2054DF 1 Hour Steel Fire Safe with Digital Lock, 0.80 Cubic Foot, Gray (Tools & Hardware)
Biggest problem - Amazon describes it as water-proof, while in reality it's NOT.
Otherwise reasonably good item for the price, no major issues so far.
Packaged very well for shipping, arrived mint (this is in response to some previous reviews).

Arrived Dented, October 10, 2009
Packing includes putting safe in box. No padding. It arrived dented on top and side. It going back today... hopefully without any problem. Also there is misleading review by Weber which say packing is impressive. I bought it thinking that may be amazon learned from customer and fixed the issue since reviews complaining about packing were old and good review was written in 2009...... but nope ..... not yet. If nicely paid amazon/honeywell exes can hear me ...... USE PADDING TO PACK SAFE WHICH WEIGH ABOUT 70 LB. IF YOU DONT THEN IT GETS DENTED IN SHIPPING..... D*** it. It already has padding on top and front side its just matter of using five more sheets of same material which should cost less then dollar.
Product its self look good and feels like solid built. Only if they knew how ship it.... it might get 4 or 5 star.

This review is from: First Alert 2054DF 1 Hour Steel Fire Safe with Digital Lock, 0.80 Cubic Foot, Gray (Tools & Hardware)
The safe is exactly what I was looking for. The safe was very well packaged and arrived dent and scratch free. I have owned it for two weeks and am very satisfied thus far.
